DVC Owners from Western USA???

We bought a resale about three years ago and have been to WDW three times since we bought it. Not only do we love the trips it is like being part of a community. Everyone loves Disney like us and no one flinches because we go so often. We go to DL at least four or five times a year. We spent about 25,000 for enough points that we can get a two-bedroom for a full week a year in the fall. We could instead get a lot more usage out of our points is we got a studio, but we would never be able to get over to florida that much. My cousin also from the Valley just bought points also after our recent trip.
Hey I just thought I'd let you know that we are from Tulare. WOO HOO! Dairyland USA! This Friday we are coming to Clovis for a band review, for my daughter. Anyways, you go to DL alot more than us. Wish I could convince my husband to also. But if we had an interest in it, maybe he would. :rotfl:

We live in Utah and bought in Dec 2005. I'm sure hoping for more DVC stuff in CA as it is closer and cheaper for us to get to.

We bought because we love Disney. We know that we will be going to DL and to WDW and on DCL for several years so it just made sense. DH and I don't have kids yet so we're both working full-time. We bought now because we could afford the up-front costs now and then use it when I'm not working and we have kiddos to take. All we'll have to do is pay our yearly dues and we'll have awesome accomodations. It will mean that we can go to Disney and stay at a nice place for years and years.

The thing that really hooked us is when we toured a DVC unit in WDW. It was nice!!! We heard the spiel on the cruise and then a year later took the tour and bought. If you are considering it, go to dvcsecret.com and you can order info to be sent to you. I do suggest giving some serious thought to it because it is a financial & long term committment. If you find that it is right for you, do it and enjoy!

I'd have to say that is pretty much the reason my family purchased also. We have 300 pts and never seem to have a problem using them every year (we too are currently on the borrow end of it :rolleyes1 ).

We have been to WDW, stayed for 12 days in a 3 bedroom villa that we would have never been able to afford otherwise, it was great!!

We don't intend to go back to WDW every year, maybe every other or every second year. We have used points recently to stay at GC in DLR....big mistake, now I won't stay anyplace else :rotfl2: We are planning on taking a cruise and maybe going to Paris as well using our points.

For my Disney Freak family, it was well worth the money.

We are new members...and pretty soon there will be at least THREE more new members from the DL boards :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

PattiPB . . . glad to see you hopped off the fence and into the DVC owner camp! (I'm sure you mentioned it earlier but I've been frequenting the WDW boards planning my first trip "home" for next month.)

As for the OPs questions . . . I don't know! We just purchased in October and will be travelling to Orlando soon for our first experience as DVC owners. I don't know that I prefer WDW or DL over the other but I would like to have access to DVC at DL, for now I'm okay with using points at the DL hotels. They anticipate the announcement of GC villas tomorrow but won't be selling those contracts for a while. I do like the fact that I'll be able to buy before the general public as a current DVC owner and if we're in a situation where we can afford it, we will buy there to have the 11 month window available for booking.

Good luck on your decision!

I think there a lot more people from the valley then we think. Tulare, you are even 40 minutes closer to Dis then us. With a 3 year old and 1 year old in the car I would love to be there quicker. My husband sometimes gets sick of going down, but I try to make the trip kick back and give him time to just hang. If we are on the go all the time, he is a grump!!!

Hi mom2dzb! Had to buy in before the 1/20 deadline. The free AP's helped DH's decision, too, since we have 3 WDW trips planned (Aug/Dec/Aug).

You missed the mosh pit of SSR owners who broke my swan dive off of the DVC fence. Quite a visual, isn't it...:rotfl2:

Anybody in California or in the West a DVC Owner. And if you are...why??? Do you make trips to WDW that much to make it worthwhile? I know that Disney is pushing DVC ownerships out here in California for the first time, (at least the first time I noticed it),and it is probably because tomorrow they will be announcing the GC becoming one, and that would be great, and I'm kind of interested. But it is pricey! So will it be a good investment? And how many of you Westerners would be interested? And maybe you people from the east would be interested too? I don't know? :confused3 I'm just real curious about this whole time share thing, and how long it would take to really get your money's worth. Any thoughts and knowledge would be wonderful. Thanks!:tinker:

Looks like there are lots of answers and opions regarding DVC.

To answer your original question, we bought ours when we lived in Ohio, and since moving to the west, we have been to WDW every other year. In addition we use ours for other locations, like Washington DC, DL, Tahoe, Chicago and yes our first DCL trip. All very nice hotels and locations.
