DVC outside of Disney

Have you used your points outside of Disney, if so where did you go? Would like to try something new and exciting and looking for suggestions.

We used our points over Thanksgiving at the Sagamore two years ago. We all had a great time. It was well worth the points because the room rates for the holiday were very high.

We stayed at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC with our DVC points. Very nice, especially the spa, but we have gotten very spoiled with DVC!!! The rooms were your typical hotel like room. Spectacular view of the mountains!!

You may want to try a search on "World Passport" or "Concierge Collection" or "II Trade" (minus the quotes, of course) in this board. You should get a bunch of hits with some great examples.

Funny you should ask! We just got back from an 8 day vacation in Norway. Interval International has a place in Gala, Norway - in the heart of Norway, about 3 hours north of Oslo. It is basically a ski resort, but we used it as a home base to do a lot of exploring.

The transaction with Interval was really easy and we got a confirmation very quickly. I am assuming, however, it was because we went in the off season.

We had a great time - we want to move there. It was really expensive, however, to the tune of 30 to 40 % higher for everything. We think it took us $75.00 or more just to fill the tank up with gas!!

But, we used less points than a Disney vacation. 208 points for a 2 bedroom cabin.

We are going to Cancun during April vacation 2005. We traded through II and are staying in a 2BR at the Royal Mayan. We love WDW, but are looking forward to something different too. The resort looks great and friends who have stayed at the royals a few times have told us they had a wonderful time.
