Dvc - novice

Hi!

I am going to ask a couple of questions and please point me in the direction of answers, because I am sure that someone has asked these questions before.

I am looking at a DVC rental for our upcoming disney vacation.

I would love to know if you can purchase your tickets and then have the dining plan if you do a DVC

Also where do I look to figure out how many points I would need to buy in order to stay somewhere?

Is there a chart of how many points = which rooms? Is there reviews of these rooms?

For those who have rented points from a DVC member would you do it again??

Tickets are on your own and you would purchase them yourself. The member you rent from would have to add the dining plan to the rental. It has to be paid for in full when it is added to the reservation.

You would have to work out with the owner how to go about that. If it is something that you know you would want or at least the option, be sure to discuss that with any owner you choose to rent from.

You are not actually "buying points". You are purchasing a reservation from a member who made it using his or her points. If you are not a member, the points are useless to you.

Look at the top of the Rent/Trade Board and read the sticky notes at the top of the page. They should give you a lot of the answers you might be seeking.

There is such a wide variety of vacation lodging, I'd really look at a number of sources.
If you Google "DVC rentals" you'll find several other good sources of rentals.

Also, I didn't count days, but it looks like your planned vacation is during the busiest time of the year for DVC.

You're 6 months out in a period when most DVCers book exactly at 11 months, so your chances of getting any DVC reservation may be very limited. You'd better get busy, and be as flexible as you can be on resort choice and dates.

Very difficult...but probably not impossible. As a PP mentioned, this is a very busy time for DVC (F&W, MNSSHP, etc) and most members book at least 7 months in advance. I believe that there are reports of NO studios available ANYWHERE for a lot of days in October. You may have better luck looking for a 1BR since those are usually the last to fill up.

I wouldn't count on BWV, BCV or BLT....OKW and SSR are probably your best bet...maybe something at AKV.

I would suggest DVCbyrequest. Since you are "green", I think it would be in your best interest to pay a little more and deal with someone that you know has experience with the rental process.

Oh, and to answer the question in your original post...I have rented DVC points before and I will NEVER do it again.....I bought my own. In all seriousness, yes, I would rent again. It went smoothly both times and I had no problems.

not impossible, but timeshares (like DVC) tend to book up earlier than hotels so your options may be more limited. larger resorts like SSR or AKV are more likely to still be available but you never know till the member calls to find out.

while DVCbyrequest may be slightly more expensive, they are probably more used to dealing with newbies...

...and while i was typing i noticed kristen already said all this...so i'll just agree with her...
