DVC Not...Rack Rate wide open

..I was just wondering if, say only 20% of BLT was sold, and 20% of BLT was MK View (Say 100 units)
If the first 100 members that booked BLT for the first opening day all chose MK View, would they all get it? Or would they say MK View was sold out after 20 reserved units and the remaining 80 members have to book Lake and Standard?

I don't understand why you'd be angry in this situation. There are a number of pots of rooms that are not, and should not be, available to members on points. They include breakage inventory, undeclared units, unsold inventory and units given up by members for cash type exchanges (DCL, etc). It's no different than having seats on one airline for a given flight but not another in a code sharing situation.

Let me clarify...Im really not "angry" but as stated...annoyed. This was an off the top of my head, lets make a ressie for the F&GF and nothing I "need" just thought I'd try and for the 1st time ever (in 9 yrs. of DVC)...didn't get a ressie.

The idea that members should get what they want no matter what if any room is available in any way is simply inappropriate, IMO
Don't go here Dean..I didnt say that....
Having 2 other timeshares, Im well aware of what I bought & paid for, and entitled to....and EXPECT nothing more.

This was just a food for thought "appropriate" post...maybe tweak the system a little... and if Disney can fill those cash rooms @ $610. per night, 1 bdrm...great for this shareholder.;)

BTW.......
You owe me lunch...remember a few years ago when the discussion about the CR becoming a DVC was running rampid?? I had said that the going price would be around $125. per pt. You totally disagreed and didn't believe me...we bet lunch...remember? Well maybe Im $5. shy of lunch..:rotfl:

Thanks everyone for some good discussion and your suggestions/opinions:goodvibes

I wish I knew the answer to this question. The reciprocal clause in the Declaration deals only with the number of accommodations. It never mentions view category. By the way, if you want to interpret the reciprocal clause for yourself, here it is from the BLT Declaration of Condominium:

3.7 Reciprocal Use by DVD and Club Members.
At any given time,DVD may own completed Vacation Homes which have not yet been committed to the Vacation Ownership Plan for various reasons. In order to provide Club Members with the greatest possible flexibility in making reservation requests, Club Members may be assigned to occupy both Vacation Homes which are associated with the Vacation Ownership Plan and completed accommodations which have not yet been committed to the Vacation Ownership Plan; however, the total number of accommodations available for Club Member reservation for any given Use Day will never exceed the total number of Vacation Homes existing within the Vacation Ownership Plan on that Use Day. Conversely, DVD may assign its renters or other users of the completed accommodations which have not yet been committed to the Vacation Ownership Plan to occupy both those Vacation Homes which are committed to the Vacation Ownership Plan and those accommodations which are not; however, the number of total Vacation Homes available for DVD renter/user reservation for any given Use Day will never exceed the total number of completed accommodations which have not yet been committed to the Vacation Ownership Plan on that Use Day. In addition, completed accommodations which have not yet been committed to the Vacation Ownership Plan may be available through rental or an incidental benefit plan offered by DVD.

That's what I read into your post, that members should get rooms over others even if those rooms didn't or no longer belonged to the member inventory. Venting is fine, esp when you truly know it's not rational. That's one of the problems of BBS and email lists, it's just the cold words. Are you talking about this Thread? Even at $125 you'd have been over both with and without the initial built in discounts. You were off on AKV too. Now aren't you sorry you reminded me because I had forgotten.

No. Although some rooms are rarely available for cash - BWV boardwalk or standard view, BCV 2 bedroom w/2 queens.

On the resorts board there is a cash guest who reports that she was told by the CM at check in for OKW that certain sections were reserved for DVC members (so that she could not stay in her requested buildings). (If I were any good at using the threads, I'd include a link). I was surprised to hear that since I thought the rooms were scheduled without regard to cash v. points.

The villas she wanted were in the HH Area category which is reserved for DVC members, like BW view at the BWV, BCV dedicated two bedroom with two queen beds in the second bedroom, etc.

There probably are other DVCs that are opened. I would take one of them and waitlist for what I wanted.

My spring break is the week beginning March 20th, and not too long ago, I added a studio for a friend at VWL for 3 nights there.

I'm pretty sure she was probably wanting HH view, and that booking catagory is generally not available to cash guests.

I suggest you waitlist what you want. You would be surpises how often those actually come through. I have had 3 waitlist happen just this year. One was for the weekend of the DISapalooza, another was for an extra night for THV labor Day weekend and the third was just this week for an extra night on Jan 1st.

I understand the frustration you feel of not having immediate availabilty for what you want, but let me tell you, the feeling to find out your waitlist came through far outweights the initial feeleings of denial. This too may be a DIsney "ploy" but we will save that for another thread. lol.

Good luck!

Definitely waitlist. Like fools we didn't take advantage of the 11/7 month window then decided to do WDW for Christmas. We did the waitlist for our dates and slowly, but surely, we eventually got all the days we requested. This was not the first time we have done a wait list. Each time we have been fortunate that the wait list came through for our request. Go for it!

It could be the HH booking cat which should lock non members out of some options most of the time. They should assign rooms based on when the reservation was made giving priority to members in any respective booking category. I think they do loosely try to satisfy many requests, it's just they're so inconsistent. IF they had a consistent policy and expected the resort personnel to pay attention to it, things would be A LOT better. Not that everyone would be happy but most with reasonable requests would be happy.

senecabeach......another option......check online at www.wyndham.com for availability at Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort. Next best thing to staying onsite...........only difference might be the transportation. It doesn't matter to us since we rent a car all the time anyway. We haven't stayed yet, but, we are staying the evening of 1/1 and 1/2 before our check-in on 1/3/10 at BLT. It seems everyone on these boards who has stayed there has been very satisfied. We considered doing a cash stay for the 2 nights before our DVC check-in, but, in all honesty I couldn't justify spending all that money for 2 nights......there are five of us and we were looking at 2 bdrms. I got a 2 bdrm at Bonnet Creek for $209 per night.

If one belongs to RCI or you know someone who does, you may be able to get this or something similar even more cheaply. I've stayed in 2 BR units for a week for less than $450, far less in many cases.
