We will be taking our first cruise in January and booked through the DVC using our points. Our friends who are not DVC members booked through the DCL and got an onboard credit for being first time cruisers. Why are DVC members not given the same credit?

I may be incorrect, but it's probably because you didn't pay in cash, only in points. Can anyone verify??

I actually did pay cash for 2 of the people and used points for the other 4. I just don't understand why it matters who the cruise is booked through.

Last year when we cruised DVC points for our first cruise we also were not allowed the credit. :(

Oh well, at least we got to cruise without it costing a fortune. (oh and fwiw, we paid for the 3rd passenger with $$ also)

I booked my parents cabin through DVC using all points and they DID recieve the credit as first time cruisers. We did not as we had cruised before. Call DVC and ask again, it does all have to be done through them.

I was told we could get the credit as first time cruisers. I need to confirm that everything went through OK, but the Members Service representative knew what I was talking about and how to document it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Guess Im calling DVC first thing in the morn! I just thought we werent going to get the credit! How much are we talking? At this point, all except DHs tux are "paid for". Guess I can add more drinks!

Just got off the phone. They said it was something they no longer do for DVC members. The DVC rep did check with DCL.
Doctor P - when are you cruising?

I also called DVC and they said that DVC members are not eligeble for the onboard credit. I really think that it is unfair that just becuase I used points to book part of my trip I am not allowed the same benefits as other cruisers.

We are cruising July 19. Made the reservation on August 19.

I just called DCL, the rep knew nothing
about a 1st time cruiser credit. Any info
would be appreciated. Toon

We cruised (4-day) for the first time in June, using our DVC points for two adults and paid cash for our DD. We were told no, at first, but kept asking because we did pay cash for our daughter. We finally were told that we would receive a $50.00 on board credit. Yes, $50.00, not $25.00. I would continue to call and keep on asking!

We paid with all points. Now, I am not actually sure we will get the credit, but the MS person seemed to know exactly what I was talking about and put it into the record so that DCL would have it and did not balk (in fact, she said, "glad you gave me that because we need to put the code into the record right away so that you will get your credit"). I will be disappointed, but not ruined for life, if we don't get the credit.

DVC Points are purchased through Disney Vacation Club. It is the purchase of a real estate interest, along the lines of a timeshare. For more information, please visit our Disney Vacation Club Board here on the DIS! :)
