Do you think DVC needs to increase the number of referrals in a given year? Why do you thinik DVC restricts the number of referrals a member can have to only 5 a year? Should it be less and larger intervals?

How many members max out on their 5 referrals a year?

Probably a very. very small percentage of members actually have 5 referrals that actually purchase in a given calandar. And I'm guessing only about 1/2 the states allow the member to even receive the referral bonus. Perhaps one of the states that do allow it has a 5 per year limit in the law, so DVC simply applied it to everyone.

I wish I could get just one. My friends look at me like I have 2 heads for buying DVC. My family thinks I am just as nuts. I tell everyone I talk to how wonderful it is and I had a few people call but on one fell in love with it like I did.

So good for you for getting 5!!

As a non-member (but wishing! :goodvibes ) I'm curious what you guys get to refer someone?
TIA!

In Texas we only get a thank you note.

In states that allow the bonus, the first referral in a year is $200, I think. Each subsequent referral increases slighty, up to $1000 for the 5th. You can use the credit toward your dues or gift card, maybe even get a check.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing! I have DVC-envy, but know that b/w a $500K mortgage and my annual property taxes (15K) I will probably never hear that "Welcome Home!"

God I wish my whole family weren't here & that I could just move!! :offtopic:

OP Do you max out your referrals every year? I can't imagine anyone doing so especially in this economy. I was thinking DVC should give you something if one of your referrals contacts them or takes the tour.

Max out? Nowadays it is difficult enought to get a referall, let alone 5 in a year. You must have a lot of friends, or just random luck hooking up with someone on the disboard to max out . Good for u....:cool1:

I've only had one referral in the 7 years we've been members...so I have no problem with the number being restricted to 5 per year.......wondering who pays for the referrals...does it come out of our dues ?

No, it is paid by DVD/DVC Marketing.

This is what happens to us too!

we joined in august of last year and we already had a referal (my cousin). we chose the $200 disney gift card, which we are splitting with them. we haven't received it yet, but should in a couple of weeks. they say it takes 6-8 weeks to get. other than that, we have talked to several people, but no one wants to join, they say it is not a good time to spend the money. we don't see any referals in the near future for us. we would be curious, also, if anyone has maxed out at 5.

Never used one.
Really my friends know I have it, but I am not selling Disney to them. LOL!

People look at us like we are nuts too or speaking a forien language! I have a friend that goes often EVEN DisneyMooned and STILL does not get it:confused3 There points would be paid off by now...Oh well more availability for us true fans huh?pirate:

people do the same to us. we get the reaction "just another time share". they just don't fully understand how it works! :)

I asked them that question about more than 5 and it doesn't look like they will change, from what they said.

It has something to do with the amount of money they can pay out in a year to any one person or DVC account.

I used to talk it up and try to share the "best kept secret" but the folks I referred were turned off by the annual maintenance dues so nobody ever went thru with a purchase. Now, after what DVC just did by switching to RCI and then what they did with the reallocation on the 2010 point charts I am done bragging. Their marketing crap will hit my recycling bin before it ever sees the inside of my house. They're on their own.

I've been a member for 15 years and have had exactly two referrals. In both cases they were inadvertent in that someone I rented to ended up buying. The small gifts, cards and thank you emails I've gotten mean a LOT more to me than would the $$$. Anyone shooting for referrals is likely having their judgement clouded (the more they scream no, the more likely it is true) and are more of a sales person than an advisor. I believe I've helped a lot of people over the years know if DVC (and other timeshares) was right for them and a number of those did end up buying something including some reading this thread. That they got the best option for their family and situation is my reward and much better than any cash or similar payment. I don't prostitute myself for rewards and I don't do it in my professional life where the opportunity is there for 5 figure returns in doing so. And I don't do multilevel marketing of which this essentially is.

I have been a DVC member for 10 years (but new to Dis) and during this entire time I have had only one referral. It was my Brother and SIL who bought just last year (much to my surprise!). I think the referral program is a very nice option but hard to utilize unless I am doing something wrong!

I will keep trying because I do believe DVC is a good investment and has allowed myself and my family to enjoy many more vacations than we ever would have on are own/
