There was an article (with photos and maps) at Yesterland back in May when Disney bought the property:

http://www.yesterland.com/harbor.html

In May, Disney didn't say what they plan to do with the property, and they haven't announced anything new about it since then.

I would think that a DVC resort will be part of the plan eventually, but there's no telling when we'll hear more. When Disney bought the site in Hawaii, they immediately announced that it would include DVC. But in the case of Bay Lake Tower, Disney held off on announcing that it would be a DVC resort as long as they could.

If Disney moves forward with developing the property, I think they will add a DVC component to the resort. National Harbor already has two timeshares being sold and Washington DC is number 3 in top US tourist destination (beating WDW and DL).

I have absolutely no interest in buying there, and probably would never use my points to stay there.

Being from Maryland, and fairly close to DC, I know a little bit about what's available to see and do around that area. I can tell you that the Smithsonian and National Gallery are not to be missed. The Air and Space museum is amazing as are the other Smithsonian museums.

As a kid, I used to take trips to the mall to go to the National Gallery to check out the French Impressionist paintings primarily. We still do from time to time and have lunch at the Cascade Cafe, underneath the two Gallery buildings. By the way, the National Gallery houses the only da Vinci in the U.S.

There other many things to see and do, such as Ford's Theate and checking out the Constitution. There are also the monuments, of course and other museums. Arlington is near by.

All in all, it's a nice place to visit and well worth using DVC points, in my opinion.

My two cents is that I would be surprised if there wasn't at least a minimal DVC representation at any resort they built offsite. I think the big difference between HI and DC is that HI announcement will help spur sales and is going to be majority DVC.....where I think the DC location will be primarily resort with smaller DVC representation. DC is likely to draw a different crowd from HI, lots of convention folks or non-DVC owners who might want visit the area and prefer the Disney themed resort.

Truth be told, it would be easy to sell HI timeshare, but more difficult to sell DC....there would be little home resort advantage, although I think some people would still buy it, just like some people will still buy HH and VB.

DS went by the area a few months a go and there was a sign suggesting that it is the future home of a DVC resort. We told him that we were thinking of selling one of our contracts and he reminded us about the future DVC resort there.

I won't be buying any points there, but I could definitely see the value for my family in booking 4th of July night on points at some time in the future.

What is on the "sign suggesting" a DVC resort? What does "suggesting" mean?

Does it have Disney logo? Or does it have a DVC logo?

Does it say "Disney" or "Disney Vacation Club" on the sign?

Disney is very careful about what they put in front of the public. It's hard to imagine a DVC sign when Disney has not made any such announcement.

I guess I'm trying to understand if the person actually saw a DVC sign or if the person assumed that Disney meant DVC, and, if so, what it was about the sign that would "suggest" DVC?

I'm not attacking anyone here. I'm just really curious what was on the sign.

We love the DC area, and would definitely use points to stay at Disney there. We have been wanting to someday return to DC just to do the Smithsonian again.

No intentions of buying points but can see ourselves using our points at least once for a quick get-away and take it from there if we would return.

I think those who have never visited Washington DC leave there with a very favorable impression once they do. DC is a great destination and awe inspiring in so many ways and for our family, we feel like we don't get to visit there nearly as often as we'd like. If Disney's National Harbor project is DVC that would definitely motivate us to go more often but I don't think we'd add on points there. We'd probably try to stay there just because it's Disney even if there wasn't DVC component.

:)
