Where is that written?
BillIt's actually expressly allowed in the POS documentation. There is a ban on "commercial renting" which has a current threshold of 20 rentals per year or running a website.Where is that written?
It's not and you should report the person who told you that.

, but I don't want to either.
Who would you report it to?
In the sense that it was meant, in that you are barred from renting, the rep was incorrect and out of line. In the true technical "legal" sense, he was correct. You cannot rent your "points." What you do is rent your real estate interest and make reservations in another's name using your points; that is allowed and is legal. The official documents define points as only symbols that represent your real estate interest and declare that your points, in and of themselves, have no monetary value. As a result, you cannot legally rent the points since they are deemed to have no dollar value. As a practical matter, everyone just refers to renting as renting the points.
I'd bet this isn't the case. I don't believe DVCMC would direct the reps to give out incorrect information that is clearly spelled out in the POS. This is far more likely either a Rogue employee or even more likely, one that has believed the water cooler talk along the way and is simply misinformed. I doubt the MS employees who are not members have access to the amount of information that members do.Not a matter of sematics, and i don't mean to split hairs, but the DVC rep disn't mis-speak if he was asked "...can I rent my points?" and replied no.
I'd bet they have a handbook full of questions/responses and this one is highlighted with the exact same response. Don't blame the messenger, in this case, they're likely just doing their job as DVC has indicated.
I also think this should be reported to the DVC Quality Assurance group. I don't have an e-mail, but you can get to them through the phone menu on the toll free DVC # (they might be the 3rd choice, after Member Accounting). It is really poor that CMs are giving out bad information that goes against the legal documentation in the POS.
Billkeishashadow - why do you keep saying that? I've seen you say that on other threads and I thought it's been posted repeatedly what the POS actually says, showing that your interpretation is incorrect?
Renting is allowed, for payment, as long as it doesn't enter the (nebulously defined) commercial realm.
Transferring for payment is not allowed.
(and thanks to whoever upstream corrected my QA vs Member Services reference)
It's not an interpretation. When I questioned why, was told no funds could change hands. I've asked both my "old" guide and MS and was told that renting is forbidden, although I may allow others to "use" my points. It's not an interpretation. When I questioned why, was told no funds could change hands.
Many here have been told the same thing over the years.
BillWhat you were told was legally incorrect.

but if i have time will call MS again just for giggles to see what i'm told re renting.quite possibly, but I received the same answer from two different sources (representing DVC), same as others have reported. Didn't stop me from being an illegal though, i just go with the program & 'rented' my points anyway, just didn't divulge when i make the ressie that funds were exchanged.
I need to finish packing for my trip tomorrowbut if i have time will call MS again just for giggles to see what i'm told re renting.
just called MS and was told I could make a reservation for other people but could not rent or receive compensation for the reservation. Also that i would need the names, etc. at the time of booking. I did ask if i would responsible for any damages that might happen (always wondered) and was told, no the 'guests' need to put down a CC at the time of booking and that would cover any potential room charges/damages
