DVC Merchandise?

Greetings!

Now that all the paperwork is done and back to DVC, I was wondering if there is any DVC logo merchandise available; our SSR payments won't start until May, and I just can't go for too long with giving money to the Mouse. :p

Seriously, with 75,000 DVC members (is that number right?) I'd be surprised if there aren't T-shirts, jackets, hats, mugs, etc. with DVC logos. Actually, what I'd really like is a DVC spare tire cover for my Jeep Liberty - like the one that was pictured in the SIMS thread a while back!

So, is there anything like this out there? And if not, any enterprising DIS DVC-ers want to join me in contacting Disney Licensing? ;)

Thanks!

They do have shirts, mugs, jackets and a few other items. As to the spare cover, no, that is not available.

I think lots of us would like to see better and more DVC merchandise. Each DVC resort has some logo wear, and the other odd N ends mentioned, but not the kind of things that have enticed me to buy too much. I would LOVE to give them some advice about what we members would like and buy!

It seems like if they were really interested in selling DVC merchandise, having a link to a DVC store on the web site would be the way to go. As of now you have to wait until you are at a DVC resort to spend money on such things.

Can you imagine the server problems they would have if they put a DVC store on their website? They would not even need to announce it. One of us would find it and post its existence here. Within a day they would be overloaded :)

What if they also added on-line point maintenance and real time room availability and reservations? You know, real 21st century kind of stuff.;)

Let's see. I'd buy a liscense plate frame or an antenna ball. How about a beach towel? A fanny pack. Overalls with the logo on the bib. How about a tote for water bottles?

hmmmmm, let me think...........

Then what could some members complain about? Software development costs money, maintenace of this software and the hardware costs money. I will stick with the phone calls, thanks.

Not on the topic but I will take the bait.

It would save us money in the long run. 75,000 members and counting all needing someone to talk to costs $. Real time reservations are already used by WDW just not DVC.

How about the small rooms and long halls at the BWV? Oh wait I own there. I'll have to let someone else complain about that.

Upgrades to provide members with online account management and reservation capability are worth the investment. The need for MS phone support would decrease or at least not increase as membership grew and we would have 24/7 access.

An on line store would not cost the members anything (excluding our purchases :) ). Disney is not going to share the revenues it would generate, so they would make the minimal investment to setup and run it. I can not figure why they have not done so, unless the Disney Stores are the only online merchandizing venture within the Disney organization.

Packrat that I am, I have saved a copy of the DVC Merchandise Catalog from 1994 (this was the one and only issue).

While it was not an online venture, it was a phone outlet and items could only be ordered that way.

I agree that someone is missing out on a potential windfall from member logo merchandise. Perhaps no one has come forward with a merchandising proposal to DVC since 1994.

Here is a look at some of the past logo merchandise.

Enjoy!

I remember reading a thread recently where the topic was how WDW upper management just hasn't thought about DVC members as moneymakers.

I think this is the case again. Here they have an untapped source of people who would LOVE more merchandise. If they are looking to generate more revenue, this is a prime outlet.

Someone on that thread said that WDW management considers a frequent guest as someone who visits and stays on site every 3 years. Huh? Look at all of us! Many, many of us just on this board go multiple times EACH year.

Thanks, Doc!

That's exactly what I'm looking for: A DVC windbreaker, for when I'm out on the Lakeside Fireworks Viewing Plaza in the winter, watching the PI fireworks.

Wow Doc! Fabulous.

Now I am really confused. You mean this stuff did not sell?

Let's hope more DISers chime in and that Jackie sees it. Maybe it would generate some DVC interest in an online store.

Keep in mind that, at that time, there were only about 15,000 members- all at OKW. I have no way to tell how sales were then, but that was the only catalog published for members.

I suspect it will take some entrepeneur contacting Disney/DVC with a merchandising proposal- Disney is more likely to license someone to take the risk than do it themselves. I would also assume they'd be more likely to offer a mail/phone operation (maybe with online access also) since another catalog will reach a larger number of members (again...not all DVC members use the internet as we do here). The risks of setting up this operation will be borne by the licensee- not by Disney.

Members can certainly keep mentioning a desire for more merchandise to their guides, at the store at each resort and in writing by email or letter to MS, but I beleive it will take someone approaching them with a marketing plan to make it happen.

My .02 :)

Thanks, Doc.

Maybe a group of us should consider doing just that. Any retailing experience amongst us?

That sounds interesting.

We were there last March and I spoke to someone in the Disney Store at DTD and asked about purchasing online and his response was. You can call us and order.

I thought about getting into a discuss with him about it, but then I dropped it.

But, coming from a web development and shopping cart background, this sounds like an interesting project to look into.

I am a packrat also and have that catalog, but, I think there was another one also. Maybe in 93.

They have a very nice lightweight jacket now. Blue on the outside tan on the inside, a bit heavier than a windbreaker. Cost 75.00.
