Hello All,

I have reveiwed my membership book and review the DVC website in regards to member perks so I have a nice base of the features. The confusion comes in with 25% of cash ressies at DVC resorts. I have been made aware that this can be done but I have not found this perk in the handbook or website. I am concerned that there might be other perks that I am missing?

1. Where is the COMPLETE listing of perks?

2. What are the parameters of the 25% cash ressies?

When it doubt go to the boards for answers. Thanks in advance.

Matt

Perks change all the time, so the best place to find what they are is on the member website or in the Portable Perks booklet that they give you when you stay on points.

The 25% discount is only on DVC villas when it is available and it is not always available. It was my understanding that these discounted rooms came out of points inventory and would be available when it was apparent that there would be points inventory available at the latest date. So, you probably wouldn't expect a discount on Sun-Thur reservations and not at holiday times. And Fri and Sat might be more easily gotten.

But that isn't always the case, so I'm not really sure what they use for the deciding factor.

Also to get a DVC discounted cash room, you have to book it through Memeber Services, not the regular Disney reservations. But for Annual Pass or other room discounts, they have to be booked through Disney, not member services.

It was always stated in the past that the member had to occupy a room that was obtained with the 25% discount. So you could only get one room at the discounted price.

Do the cash nights also include the rooms held for cash pricing for non DVC members?

So far we have booked cash nights at BCV on a Sat & Sun in April and I just booked a cash night for a Friday night, the 26th Dec 2008.

and another and;) :
BWV's with BW view are not available for the cash discount (they are only availble with points, not thru CRO either). it can make BW view ressies interesting (i.e., nail-biting) sometimes :rolleyes1

I have a member's discount for a room on a Thurs and a Sat. I have tried for weeks to get the Thurs. night on points...to no avail. Can you explain? I'm not grasping the rooms coming from the points inventory.

That the part that confuses me also. I always thought those cash rooms with discounts came from member inventory. But if you can't get them on points, who knows?

Hmmmm...just when I thought I would figure out this mystery......Hmmmm. I thought I just wasn't getting it.

It is my understanding that the rooms you book through MS with cash at the 25% discount come from the Undeclared (or Developer) inventory, and not from the Declared (or Member) inventory.

Are the discounts for park tickets only on AP or are they on regular Magic Your Way (for ex: with no expiration)?

perks change from time to time, but at this point, the AP discount is the only one.

IIRC, MYW used to be discounted but not this century...

Thanks for a perfectly reasonable explantion.:goodvibes

But if they are giving out Developer points right and left, surely they are opening up the developer inventory for points.

I think most of the cash MS inventory is from rooms gotten with points traded for DCL, DC, CC and the like. Technically it does say a member must occupy but usually there are more than one person on a membership, a husband and wife could easily get two. Plus DVC has never been strict in this area if the member were present on the trip.

I suspect their using points from ROFR contracts for the developer points, that's why the 7 month only advance reservation and not "developer inventory". They declare just enough to keep selling most UY most of the time.

Right, Dean. So there are three apparent sources of the cash inventory:
  • When a member uses their points to book a Disney Cruise or a regular hotel in the Disney Collection, that inventory gets shifted from points to cash inventory
  • The Undeclared (or Developer) inventory (Disney's retained ~4%, unsold points, and points obtained via ROFR)
  • Any Declared inventory not reserved by members using points is made available to CRO at the 60-day mark for cash reservations by the general public ("breakage")

I would divide these up differently. Undeclared inventory is unsold units that are not part of DVC. ROFR and the roughly 2-4% that DVC keeps is mainly used as a buffer and for maint issues, are both declared inventory that is owned by a member, in this case DVD. Cash rooms could come from any of these groups through DVC or CRO. My impression is that undeclared inventory goes only to CRO or at least is not handled by DVC at all. Points traded is potentially available for member cash reservations with or without a discount.

So with all the developer points that are being given out with purchases, do you think those come from only the undeclared inventory? Or could they come from DVC declared/ROFR inventory?
