dvc members only inviation

I recived in the mail, an invitation, for some member only events at the theme parks and SSR&S. It was $299 per person,which seemed, like an incredible amount of $

What is this exactly? Why should i consider it? If the $299 is reasonable and not high, please advise.

Please assume in your response. I do not have any idead, what this inviation is, because I do not??

I going to guess you are referring to the Members Homecoming scheduled for May 27, 28, & 29. We received the information about a week ago.

The ticket price for the adults is $299 unless you are a annual pass holder. Then the price is $249 per person. It's all a matter of your own opinion as to whether the event is going to be worth it or not.

There are several threads regarding the Members Homecoming. One of them is titled "Anyone book MH" or something like that (don't know how to post a link, sorry). I'm sure with a quick look at the first couple of pages of threads you'll find more than you bargained for on this issue.

DH & I decided for us it will be worth the money. We are looking forward to it.

It really is up to personal taste if you feel this event is worth the price for you. Many feel it is not. My DH and I went on the DVC Member Cruise in February and loved it. Many didn't feel that was worth the price when it was announced either but we had a great time and felt it was more than worth it. If you want to see a little of the member cruise click on this link:

We're new members from Texas (just joined a few months back) and we're really excited about our membership, but I must say that I was disappointed with the Member Homecoming event invitation we just received.

Why would I spend almost $300 for me and my husband and then plunk down another $250 for each of our kids after we just purchased our membership for almost $18,000? For the events they've lined up, though interesting, it hardly seems to warrant another $1000+ out-of-pocket costs.

My husband works for a one of the largest credit card issuers and he thinks its Disney's way of taking advantage of the very people that show the most loyalty to the Company, not because they can, but because they know folks like all of us will be taken in. Our friends read their stuff and they said it looked like a poor man's version of Harley-Davidson's 100th Anniversary event for their membership (HOGs). The big difference they said was that there was more to the HD event and that everything except food and beverages were FREE...all the entertainment, shows, seminars, etc.

Well I've got news for DVC...we'll use our membership -- we can clearly see the value, but they can keep their precious event to themselves unless they drop the prices.

What do ya'll think? Am I being too hard on DVC or can you quantify the value for us?

I agree with you 100%. I did not post out of fear, of getting flamed, anytime, I question any cost associated with DVC membership.
I have attended two DVC MEMBERS Day at Boardwalk and they were extremely dissapointing and disorganized.
They were free, so hopefuuly, this will be different.

We attended one this summer at VB and it cost $18 a person for basically a dessert and coffee

I think DVC is not to blame necessarily (although I think they could lobby harder on our behalf), but the higher-ups in WDW management. It is my belief that DVC member events tend to be priced toward the higher end because they view DVCers as the ultimate cash cow. As in you example, other companies show their appreciation to their repeat customers, why not Disney??

I agree that the pricing was a bit too high for my tastes. But in the end, I think future events will be driven by supply and demand. I've heard reports that they are limiting the event to around 4000 participants. If they reach that number, it will be deemed a success, and future events will likely follow a similar pricing model. If they don't get as many people as they want, they may re-examine the pricing and/or features.

While I certainly don't begrudge anyone who chooses to attend this event, I couldn't justify the additional expense for our next trip. We would much rather book a couple of nice romantic dinners and a behind the scenes tour for a fraction of the cost.

It was for "DVC Members Day" at VB. We were there in July and it was the first one. They said they were going to have them weekly. There was about 8 adults and 6 kids there.

Believe it or not it wasn't a sales pitch at all. They had a table set up with 3-4 different types of desserts and coffee. They raffled off a few prizes. But from the turnout and cost($18-person)
I doubt if they even continued it very long. $36 for 2 cups of coffee and a dessert is a little ridiculous for 2 people.

With the holidays and work, I've been too busy to even read through a lot of our mail, including the invitation. One question though, are the accomodations covered in that? If so, where? If you are getting accomodations, then the $299 per person seems pretty reasonable. I'd agree though, it would be pricey to bring the kids.

Accomodations are NOT covered.
