DVC Member Room Discounts Question

We are new DVC members (Aug. 08) and sort of remember our guide mentioning that we could use our DVC membership to obtain a room discount at any WDW resort if we were not going to stay and use points. Anyone out there have an idea about how much (if any) of a discount we would see on either a moderate or deluxe room in early December? We have developer/incentive points but are saving the entire amount for a week in May 09. I just can't wait until May! LOL!

I just asked the same question last week.
DVC Members booking through MS can receive 25% off rack rate, subject to availability.

The discount is only for DVC resorts and is (of course, LOL) subject to availabiliity. The discount is 25% off the rack rate.

If you have or are planning to purchase an Annual Pass often that may get you a better discount.

Sometimes if you try to book DVC cash discount more than 7 months ahead it may not be available then. It seems most success getting the 25% discount is at under 7 months ( it is tied to anticipation of rooms going unoccupied ).

As pointed out by CarolMN it is only for DVC Resorts. At DVC Resorts like BCV, BWV, VWL & AKV discount would only be available for DVC units ( not for the 'regular' resort rooms ).

I have only booked cash reservation with 25% discount for single night reservations and that was immediately charged to my credit card. Cancellation must be made MORE than 5 days before check-in or the charge will stand. So if you are waitlisting for the same night on points always be sure they have in fact cancelled your cash reservation if the waitlist comes through.

I'd bet you won't find a room to be had through MS for early Dec. You'd have to go through CRO and then no discount for members.

Just to re-state...you won't get any discount on a moderate or deluxe room. The discount only applies to DVC resort accommodations.

Anytime I have used the member discount for DVC, they took my credit card # as a hold but did not charge it until check-in.

My member discount reservations have been made with under 3 weeks to check in date ( my last one made was on June 20 for July 6 ) and my card was immediately charged. I guess it may be a hold if there is longer than 3 weeks to go.
