DVC member Photo's at Olivia's

Been meaning to ask this lately and keep forgeting -- Has anyone noticed on their recent trips to Olivia's at OKW that the member photos that were all over the walls have been taken down? Was there a couple wknds ago for supper and asked a CM about it and was told they took them down to paint and even took photos of exactly where each picture was so they could put them back up in the same places and they just never put them back up -- she said she didn't know why they put them back up after all the picture taking to be able to put them back but that it had been a while and it wasn't looking like they were going to put them back up now We always looked forward to seeing our picture up on the wall - made us feel special. The walls look so bare now and it felt like something was missing (which of course it was!). Anyone else notice or miss them being there? It's such a bummer.

We ate at Olivia's on 7/5 and all of the pics are back up!

I miss the photos, but I also enjoy the new pictures they put up of "Old Key West." They're fun to look at!

Wow! Cool! I was there on 6/28 and that was when the CM said it didn't look like they were going to put them back because it had been so long!

Thanks for the info. It really felt like something was missing with the walls having been so bare. That makes me feel better

I am friends with the manager who took the pictures down. They were taken down for painting and it was intended they not go back up. Even though they mapped out where every one was to be put it back in the same place. One reason they were not to go back up is a pretty good one. It is almost impossible to keep all the pictures clean. Dust really collects on the tops and behind the pictures. There were times when the dust would literally drop off on to the tables below. Not very healthy. Another reason is that routine painting does not happen as often because it's hard to work around them. But even another reason was that some of the cast just thought they had become a little bit of an eyesore. What some people don't know is that many families had multiple pictures up while more recent attempts by families to put theirs up were denied for space reasons. The manager I referred to is not there anymore and as DJR reports, I guess newer managers must have caved to requests.

I think it makes things very homey. But at the same time I really liked how nice the walls looked without them too.

they should definitely check on the member ID on the back of the pictures - if there is not one - or if that member ID is not valid anymore - yes definitely take down the pictures.

I can't believe that this would take a lot of time.

so other newer members could also put their pictures up....

I didn't do this for the first year - I hate my picture - but my brother and his family were interested and they are ones in the picture that I have up....

Our picture (from our very first trip to OKW in 1995) was relocated to the bar when the entrance to Olivia's was changed. I hadn't realized that they had been taken down and I am glad that they were rehung after the place was painted.

I think that they add a lot to Olivia's and make OKW more homey. I hope that they are there until at least 2042.

Does this mean that they are starting to add photos again? We tried to add them a year or two ago, and was told they won't be adding any more! Now I read there is hope!

Should I come down there prepared with a framed photo?

We stayed at OKW last year for the first time (since buying DVC in 10/00) after our Magic cruise. We liked the idea of member's pictures being up at Olivia's. I actually tried to look for any familiar faces/names. When went to Community Hall (Hanks?), we saw more pictures there too. I asked if they still put pictures up and was told yes, but very few spots left. We took a nice picture that day, had film developed and bought a frame. Our picture hopefully is still up in there. Will check it out this August. I can understand though all the dust they collect.

When we had oiur picture put up in 1997 we were told there was no more room at Olivia's so our picture is hung up in Community Hall. But on our trip in May we say photos as recent as dated last year hung up by the telephones. We are disappointed but what can one do.

They should make a manifest list of the photos so that they can make sure only one photo per family appears (even though they may have more than one contract.

you are surpose to change your photo - that is why in the end it was one member per photo.

each year (or whenever) you are surpose to update your photo.

Interesting... hadn't heard about changing the photo. I suspect I'm not alone!

Can't say I ever saw anyone taking down a photo to have it replaced. Sounds like a logistical nightmare!
