We rented points from a DVC member. I've heard DVC members get some extra perks, like they can swim in some other resorts pools. Not sure if any of this is true and even if it is, does it apply to us since we are just renting?
You would receive the perks of staying at a Disney resort....access to EMH, DME, charging privileges to your room, free parking at theme parks, etc.
The DVC member perks are only available to the member, and most require that you show a DVC membership card. So you would not be able to use the pool hopping perks, and you would not have access to any of the discounts offered to members.

DVC members are allowed to pool hop (with some exceptions), but someone renting points from a member does not have that same privilege. I think the only DVC member benefit that is extended to people renting points is the ability to add the DDP to their reservation without having to purchase park tickets.
DVC members staying at a DVC resort can also visit the Lounge at the top of BLT which is great for watching wishes at MK. THis is only available to the members and does not even extend to the children of the members nor renters.

Abner, wait a second please. Are you suggesting that DVC members staying on points can't take their children to the lounge? I don't believe that is correct

HUH? So I am a DVC member (will be when I pass ROFR) and our kids who are 14.8,5 can't join us at the top of the world lounge when we visit later this year ? Why is that ? Does that mean my wife can't either since I am the only one on the deed

DVC member who are staying on WDW property can go up to the TOTWL and show their KTTW and DVC blue member card except for a few blackout periods. Any guests staying with them (minor children, adult children, friends, etc) can accompany them. But they cannot park at BLT to access the lounge. They have to take Disney transportation to get there.
Persons who rent a reservation from a DVC member are not entitled to any member perks.

My child has always been allowed to go up to the ToTW lounge area with us.
The best way to remember what things non-DVC renters are entitled to is this...if you need to show a blue membership card, as well as your room key, in order to do something, then you won't be able to do it if renting points. This would include ToTW, pool hopping, any dining discounts, any shopping discounts.
