DVC Member no longer on room card - Question

I used to see a notation on my room key card that I was a DVC Member. This was often useful when I forgot my DVC Member card and wanted to get the various discounts that Disney had negotiated - for example several restaurants at Hilton Head that are not owned by Disney give a DVC 10% member discount. I have noticed on my last few trips that my room key card no longer shows that I am a DVC member. Would anyone know if Disney has changed there practices or maybe there has just been an error in printing my room cards? Thanks for the information.

They changed the practice so renter could not get the DVC discounts and instead members can with their membership cards.

Thanks for the information. I used to like it the old way so I could carry fewer cards, but maybe members were making reservations and not listing non-member guests names on the reservations?

Well you have to give names of people staying there. But last December we were there with family, and they listed everyone on the cards with DVC member on it. Well, except for me, which was annoying, because, while I"m just the Associate and not the member, I was the one that arranged the whole thing...even the 3 year old got that notification on her keycard...but not me. Until I went in and whined with a goofy smile (self-aware silly whining and the CM giggled with me), and he fixed it for me.

Honestly in my opinion, this was to solve a CM problem. Aren't they, haven't they, supposed to look at the actual member card in order to give discounts? That's what I thought the rule was. So if there has been a problem, it's on the CM side, in my opinion...too bad we don't get that put on our cards anymore (it was special for my extended family, to make a distinction between those cards and their previous cards).

I agree with your frustration over the DVC Member issue, Bumbershoot.
Over the years I have found keeping track of the "DVC Member" discounts to be an exercise in frustration. My wife an I have been given a member discount at the main Disney store in years past and also been told several times that there is no discount when we asked. Same thing goes for 10% discounts at Fulton restaurant at Downtown Disney and several restaurants around the marina at Hilton Head. I can't tell you how many times we have had to present the discount brochures that Disney gives you in their welcome packages to the restaurants because they have had no idea what we were talking about. Often times my wife and I forgo the so-called discount perks to avoid aggravation, unless we are picking up the restaurant bill for at least 6 people. I realize these are just member perks that are not a right of being a member - but sometimes it feels like these so called member perks are not perks at all. I intend to mention this when I receive my Disney survey from our recent Hilton Head trip.

I haven't seen "DVC Member" on a room card since December 27, 2010. I have been on 3 trips since then. I guess DVC is being very inconsistent in their practices. They managed to recognize us as members for purposes of getting free Wifi - thus we avoided a $10 per day charge. I think I'll call member services and see what is up with this issue.

For our last two trips, the KTTW said DVC room on it, but not DVC member.

I don't know if that is really true. I realize that MS is putting that word out but I was told by different Managers at different DVC resorts earlier this month that the wording change is being caused by their new Lilo software. Depending on which resort you are staying at and where they are in the conversion process determines what is printed on your KTTW card. The same reason is why different members are reporting different success stories with segmented reservations.

I just called member services and was told that DVC members should still get the "DVC Member" designation on their room key cards. However, the DVC repressentative also siad that depending on the date your reservation was made you might fail to get the DVC member designation on your room card because of what she called a glitch in the system that DVC had last year. It sounds like the glitch might have been the changeover from one system to another although the DVC representative I spoke to did not explain it as well as the previous poster did.

It certainly sounds like no policy regarding "member" designation has changed and that "if" we can manage to get "DVC Member" designation on our cards we can all enjoy the perk of having to carry only a room key when at a DVC resort. Notice the "and/or" in the quote below.

"To receive any of these discounts, you must present your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card and/or your current "Key to the World" card with your DVC "Member" designation on it at the location"

I don't believe it is to force you to use your membership card for discounts. There are certain discounts that I believed to be available to all guests staying on points such as dining discounts where applicable.

Children are a great example. At times, they may be old enough to go alone and dine (I know I did when I was younger), but not someone I want to have on my contract just for discounts.

I agree that thi is a glitch that will be worked out (maybe just not a top priority). Our December visit included DVC Member or DVC Room on our cards and we were at AKV-Jambo. This was after the issue had been raised.

when we stopped @ the Disney store at DTD earlier this month we were told there was no discount for DVC members as well. What is the true story?:confused3

Discounts are available with member card and/or room key. It might not be a top priority issue for them, but if you take vacations as I just did with 6 adults and my grand children and you eat dinner out and run up a $200 bill 4 times during a week an $80 perk that is easily accessible without having to remember how many ID cards you need to carry with you - is very much appreciated. I hope DVC will get it right in the near future.

My wife just informed me that she was told at the DTD store last April that she was denied the discount as well and that she was given the explanation by the clerk that there used to be a discount but that now the only discount that is available is for people carrying the Disney Credit card. I guess we may have to keep re-checking what the available perks are prior to each vacation on the member website. Otherwise we just have to trust that the castmemebers we talk to are well informed.

I believe this to be true as the just had a D23 and DVC Member "sale event" at the World of Disney store. It seeams the discounts are not tied to being an AP passholder or Disney Visa Card holder (at least on a regular basis).

It's why I finally caved to the Disney Visa Card.

All current discounts are listed in the "perks" booklet that is in your welcome folder given to you at check in.

In all fairness to the CM's, there is an avalanche of discounts and perks they have to try to keep track of. AP, Disney Visa, DVC, DDP and I'm sure there are other ones out there as well. And the perks continue to change.

I would just bring the "Portable Perks" booklet along...it is small and should be up to date. I've never found a CM that wouldn't go along with what is printed in that book.
