IHello Everyone...

have seen somewhere on the boards that there is some type of meal program for DVC members. You would pay a yearly fee and that would entitle you to a 20% discount on food? Is there a web site with this info? Any information would be most helpful

Thank you.

I don't know of any food plan you can get just because you are a DVC member, but you can get the Disney Dining Experience (DDE) if you are an annual pass holder. The regular price is $75, but you get a $25 discount I believe if you are a DVC member. Anyway, the DDE will give you a 20% discount at many of the restaurants on Disney property and in the parks. The list is very long and all varieties. We more than covered the $50 cost on our first trip using the DDE card. They were really nice and faxed a letter to the Guest Services office at MGM so we could use it the day we were there for lunch. We had just purchased our Annual passes and didn't have time to wait on the DDE card. We received it when we got home, but we used that letter several times on our trips. It even works on Character meals.

The sun is finally shining in Illinois! :sunny:

There isn't currently a food plan geared towards DVC members.

Disney did announce a change to the Disney Dining Experience (DDE) this year that makes any Annual Passholder (AP) eligible to purchase the DDE card. DDE provides a 20% discount on most restaurants at WDW. Many DVC members purchase Annual Passes and that is probably the source of confusing statements. AllEarsNet DDE Info There is a page at the Disney website that describes the DDE details for Annual Passholders, but you need to input information from your AP ticket to gain access to the page.

There are several restaurants at WDW that will offer 10% discounts to DVC members. Here is a link that compares many of the discount programs at WDW. AllEarsNet Comparison of Discounts

The $25 discount is for AP Holders. There is no discount for DVC members, you are not eligible to get it unless you are an AP Holder or Florida Resident.

I ordered our AP's through DVC. I will be receiving a voucher for our AP's. Can I order the DDE card with the voucher?

Yes, you can. I did as did several others I've come across on the boards. All they need is the # on the back of the voucher. Just be aware it is taking them a long time to get the DDE cards out. I ordered mine 2/17 and haven't received it yet. However, they will send you an e-mail confirmation that will be accepted at the restaurants, along with a listing of all the participating restaurants.

Yes. The CM will ask you for the numbers on the back of the voucher.

Best wishes -

As always DebbieB is 100% right. However your DVC membership DOES give you a major discount on the AP you need to qualify for the DDE card. So...

Step 1: Buy Annual Passes through DVC website to get your DVC discount.
Step 2: Use AP vouchers to buy DDE card at discounted price of $50.
Step 3: Go to WDW and eat!

There are only a handful of sit-down restaurants that are not included in DDE, most notably those at the Swan and Dolphin resorts. However I think all Swan/Dolphin restaurants except Shula's offer a 20% DVC discount!

When is the effective date of the DDE card? We are going in August. When do I have to purchase this?

Hello! I have been trying for over an hour to get through to the DDE and press #1 to wait to get the call through and then after doing this for a series of 5 times and calling back 4 times.... I get disconnected. Is there an easier way to do this? We are arriving at WDW on May 6th and want to get this going.
Also, we have some of our reservations all ready set... will I have to call back and let them know we have this card?
Thanks for any help! :confused3

I think everybody got so excited talking about DDE (which IS a better plan) that we forgot to answer your original question.

YES, there is a DVC dining discount, and you don't have to do anything to get it.

The DVC membership card discount gives you 10% off at many WDW restaurants (everything from McDonalds to the fancy places), 20% off at the Swan and Dolphin, and some other specials. The card also gets you discounts from various retailers, spas, attractions, etc. These member perks can change from time to time, so it's best to check when you get to WDW to see what the current deal is. The Disney Stores were recently sold, so the discount no longer applies there.

The DDE is a better discount plan, especially if you like to eat well, especially if you drink alcoholic beverages (excluded from the DVC discounts), and especially if you travel in herds. The DDE is good for up to ten people, including alcohol, as long as the card is presented at the time of ordering, all orders are on the same check, and the DDE cardholder is paying the bill.

But not everybody can justify the annual pass + the cost of the DDE. It depends on how often you go, how long you stay, and how much you eat on-site. If DDE doesn't work for you, use your DVC card and happily save 10%.

The DDE card will expire +/- 13 months from the time they issue the card -- which takes 2-3 weeks from the time you purchase it. I think the expiration date is actually the last day of the month after the month during which they generate the card. So, if you ordered the latter part of April '05, you might get a card with an expiration date of June 30, 2006.

In the meantime, they will email/fax you a confirmation of the purchase, and you can use that confirmation just like you had the card in your pocket.

If you go to WDW often, you may be able to maximize the DDE card by ordering it at the last minute, using the email confirmation during your first visit, and then still having the card for 13 months or so when you get back. The point of the DDE is to get you in their restaurants, so they don't mind if you beat them up for an extra month...or two...or three.

Hello all!
Well... DVC finally called me back to take my information down for an Annual Pass. They will be sending me a voucher for me to call and give the DDE proof that I have an Annual Pass. I thought this could be done before the voucher came... but I guess not.
Thanks to all of you for posting information about this. You have been so helpful.

I am just in the process of purchasing my first DVC points. I would be interested in knowing; what is the cost of an annual pass for DVC members, and what does it include? Thanks much. ::MinnieMo
