The last couple of years DVC has held a member event on July 3rd at the Contemporary, we'll be in town this year on the 3rd and we'd like to go if the event is happening, but I can't find any information. Does anyone know if this event is happening this year?

There is the Member event at Typhoon Lagoon on July 5th. You have to sign up online. I don't know if there's any availability left or not. Haven't heard anything about July 3rd at the Contemporary though.

So it appears, yes it is happening and booking opened today and of course it is already sold out. I have to say I am really annoyed with this one. I have been keeping my eye open for the booking date for this for months. I check in here practically daily, am in several DVC facebook groups, have the DVC FB page liked, etc. and I have seen zip regarding this. Logged into DVC last week and searched the member calendar and there was nothing, I really started to think they weren't going to have it this year because of the complete lack of advertisement. Well today I stumbled upon my Disney Files magazine and thought let me google it again. One post from 5/21 shows up on DVCnews which was apparently the only booking announcement and it said booking opened today. Called at 3:30 and it's sold out. I could have called at 8 am if DVC had bothered to tell their members when registration was opening!! Just rechecked my email and I have a member insider newsletter from May 19th but of course this event is not mentioned in it!! So annoyed right now.

From what I've seen the event calendar on the website only shows the ongoing events and never the special one's. I called MS today about modifying a reservation and they had a blurb about the July 4th event being sold out. I was a bit surprised as I also hadn't heard about it opening up for booking or that it was even happening for certain this year. Sorry you missed it!

Also, it looks like it's a 48 hour cancellation so you might want to just check periodically the closer it gets to the event and maybe catch a cancellation.

FWIW, I've attended a convention party at that location. Yes, you can see fireworks but I think I'd want to view the special 4th of July ones from someplace else.

I feel your pain, have been trying to snag an Epcot Soarin Wednesday since last fall for 5 different trips without success.

It was referenced in the newsletter that arrived @ my inbox last Friday i.e. 19th. You had to click on the 2nd image below which took you to DVC website under 'member events & experiences for information. The 1st image shows it gave the date it was available, picture taken to remind me to book as i was waiting @ MCO to catch a flight.

FYI, also received at least 2 notices it would be available to book today from several 3rd party newsletters to which I'm subscribed.

I called MS @ 9 am sharp today, first call disconnected after 5 minutes. 2nd had an hour plus hold time but i did get through by 10:30 pm.

Chatting with the CM asked if she thought the long wait due to 7 month Xmas bookings, she said majority of calls were for this event. it was selling out quickly, expected it wouldn't last until noon.

No luck for me again re soarin lol

There is the 48 hour cancellation imposed, keep checking!

Even though the event is listed @ 7 - 9 am, my stated checkin time is 7:20 pm which i found rather confusing, especially as tables will be limited.

CM said the seating would be 'limited'. Had hoped to get off my feet if not lean on a table.

Have searched for other threads re past years' events, didn't find any actual reviews.

Can you tell me why you feel that way?

We've enjoyed viewing FW from BLT room/TOTW lounge & CR room & CA Grill. I understand you'd lose the height advantage.

My GD wouldn't be tall enough to view over the balcony @ CA Grill so that option was out, as is blackout dates for non BLT guests.

Had originally planned to stand behind the castle but dealing with such a crush of people in the park and having her along was starting to weigh on my mind.

would start the afternoon @ MK, eat @ CP & head to the dessert part. venturing back to the MK afterwards, swimming upstream as it were.

I do have an later ADR @ Kona too. Was mulling over whether to head there for dinner in lieu of CP before this dessert party cropped up. No idea if the Poly will put the wristband method into place for FW viewing as they threatened last year. Was just there & asked, desk said nothing had been decided yet.

Nice to have options, just wish I could find more TR re 4th of July.

It's an ok spot to watch fireworks but as you mentioned is a ground level view. Mostly I was thinking that for the 4th of July fireworks they also shoot off of one or two of the islands in 7 Seas? Because of that I think a birds eye view from somewhere - or else from Poly or T&T might be better. But of courses this event comes with dessert and smaller crowds - and it's generally a decent spot to watch. Perhaps it wouldn't be that difficult to see all the fireworks from there - I've only seen the nightly version of Wishes from that area so can't say what it would be like for all the fireworks of the special shows.

So I just found a picture I have showing the Porte Cochere area. It looks like if you could get far enough out from the building and not have the MK fireworks blocked by a tree or something then you'd also be able to see the other fireworks from the Lagoon if they do those this year.

Since DVD/DVC has such a poor track record of communication with these "special" events, it's safe to say that they just want to use them for advertising aimed at potential buyers. If they cared about the members, they would do a better job keeping us informed.

That is really strange. I looked back at the newsletter that I got on the 19th, and that image did not appear. So my newsletter contained no notice of the event.

Same. I checked that email 3x and nothing. I wonder if it is because we don't have reservations at that time? Who knows? Mine showed info on MNSSHP and MVMCP tickets and we are holding two reservations during that time frame. We are staying at my inlaws timeshare offsite and not doing the parks this week so I was looking forward to doing this special event.

You guys are all better then me....I have been a member since 2001, and i feel like i find out about all of these things too late....The only one i was ever able to attend was the Typhoon Lagoon member event a couple of years ago

It is very odd. I have res in place for Oct but not Nov or Dec but have links for both parties in my email.

I can also nderstand them sending out a separate, stand-alone announcement to members that have reservations on the relevant dates, but two different newsletters seems very odd.

They are having the dessert party at the Contemporary on July 3. It's $35 + tax and gratuities for adults which brought the price to something like $46. As with all things Disney, my 11 year-old counts as an adult when it's time to pay.

I am sorry you missed out on this. I saw it online on facebook as well some emails from DVC and we had a least a week's notice for when booking would occur. I am wondering if we got notice because we have a reservation at AKL at this time?
