I should know this by now, but I don't. :(

Do DVC members receive discounts when booking regular cash reservations at DVC resorts?

My sister is thinking of joining us on our next trip to BLT, and I was wondering if I could book a studio for her at a discount. Though I thought this is likely not possible, I thought I would ask the experts here on the DIS just to check! :goodvibes

You can get a discount cash reservation for yourself. It's usually 25% off the rack rate, IF you book the reservation through member services.

However, the cash reservations are only good if the member is staying in the room. So you could book the cash reservation for yourself, and book your sister's stay on points, and then just have her pay you back for the cash reservation.

Aha! Very cool!! Thanks for the info!! I just knew a DIS expert could get me the info almost instantaneously!!

Thank you so much!! :goodvibes

Also be sure to check any other existing promotions that Disney might have going on. They might have free dining, 30-40% off, etc through Central Reservations. So it's worth it to call them and ask about it.

If free dining is available, book the room through CRO, and then get free dining. Add all 3 of you to the cash reservation, and keep your DVC reservation. All 3 of you will then get dining credits to eat. At $40 per person, per night, that's $120 per night in free food. That'll likely be more than the DVC discount.

If you're just going to make food in your room, or have TiW or something else, then it might not make sense. But definitely see what CRO has to offer you.

Oooooh!! As always, a wealth of info that I didn't have!! I would not have thought about that. Thank you SO much YourEveryDayAdam!!! :yay:

Just to make a clarification....to receive "free dining" you must pay rack rate (full price) for your accommdations.

Her guest is already paying cash for the room. I was simply suggesting that she compare the current offers through CRO, like the free dining offer to the 25% member discount price. I don't know when she's traveling, or even if free dining will be offered then, but you definitely want to compare what we're offered as members vs. what's generally out there.

I was just using free dining as an example: By paying rack rate, and getting free dining, versus booking her friend's room with the 25% member discount.

If 3 people are coming, then that's $120/night of dining. Versus the 25% off of a $300/night studio is $75/night. Over a 7 night stay, that's $400+ in extra savings by taking advantage of a different offer.

Overall, it's cheaper to pay rack rate for the room, and get free dining for 3 people, than it is to get the room at the 25% discounted rate and pay for dining out of pocket.

The PP...you were discussing the discount, free dining and keeping the DVC reservation..... I was a little confused (not an unusual occurance:lmao:).

Thanks for the clarification.
