Okay, so I have never been on a cruise before. I have a family of 6 (2 adults-2 girls ages 13/10- 2 boys ages 6/4) and don't know how the rooms work and where we would all fit. if I could figure out what type of room we would need to fit, I could try to figure out how many points we would need.

If we didn't have enough points, could we book with cash for some? Chances are it would be just the 5 of us (no 13 yr old - her mother would never let her miss school). What kind of room would we have to book? Or would it be rooms?

I know my Dh would love a verandah but I am very skeptical about being out at sea with no land in sight for even a portion of the trips. I'm not a fan of being out on the ocean but my DH really would love it. What a better place to try it than on a Disney cruise?

It would not be for next years cruise but would be for probably the 09 cruise, which I would have to book next year and hopefully it happens.

Thanks!!

I don't have answers to your specific questions about room type, points/cash, missing school ... but I did want to chime in on the following:

Atta' girl! That's the spirit! DCL is a great first-cruise experience!

We tested the waters when the Magic was only a few weeks old (1998) and fell in love with the experience. Yes, you'll enjoy the verandah if you have one -- and yes, you'll enjoy the time at sea. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy on board and you can choose to spend as little or as much time as you wish on your private, peaceful balcony.

We just returned from a 15 night cruise with 8 back to back sea days (transatlantic crossing on a ship with engine troubles) and loved every minute of the journey.

Cruising is a joy. Just get on board ... and enjoy the adventure.

yes you can mix cash and points - If you want to be together you will need a cat 3 or cat 4.

You might want to get 2 connecting cat 11's

Yes, that is what we are doing this year. We are paying points for one adult and one child and paying cash for the other adult and other child.

how much cash for adult and for child each? Want to make sure that we can do it right. I'm hoping to use mostly cash and use the points to give us a few days at WDW while we're down there.

It depends on the time of year.

Example: for Adults: 2007 cash price for cat 11 was $1010
2008 cash price is $869

I don't recall 2003 and 2005 but you could call MS or email them and ask past prices.

Is that expensive for a cruise or pretty dead on?

Does the cruise include everything? All the food, activities and stuff? Well, everything besides shopping.

Its more than a normal 4 day cruise but there are special girfts and guests/

Covers food and kids club

The things it does not cover: raft rentals/bike rentals - excursions - any spa treatment - bingo - alcoholic drinks - drinks bought cofe cafe and at the bars (example a sprite from the bar will cost you but the sprite from the drink station is free )
