When we visited the Jambo side of AKV this month, there was a decent number of rooms that have a small DVC plaque/logo/emblem above the room number plaque.

What are these for? I was under the impression (from my Tour Guide) that DVC does not have specific rooms, but just a set inventory.
We stayed on the Kidani side and did not see these. I have also stayed at the Wilderness Lodge & Beach Club and did not see them there either.

Just curious if anybody knows why there were quite a few rooms marked with these???

DVC does have specific rooms at Jambo. They are on the 5th and 6th floors. They are villas that were transformed from older rooms.

AKL had trouble filling their rooms so some of the rooms were converted to DVC rooms as a test to see how much interest there was in AKL. The DVC rooms were a success and DVD decided to build Kidani. The DVC rooms at Jambo House have the DVC plaque. At the other resorts, the entire resort or a building or wing of a regular resort is DVC property so room plaques aren't needed.

So was the Tour Guide incorrect when she said that there are not certain rooms at any resort blocked off for DVC and cash reservations? She made it sound like you could be placed anywhere and that location had nothing to do with it, it is just based upon inventory.

Yes, she was incorrect. Villas are villas and standard rooms are standard rooms. You don't get a studio when you book a standard room. If you book a studio, you should get a studio.

I think she meant that within the DVC rooms, there are not rooms blocked off for points or cash. If you book a DVC villa with points or a DVC villa with cash through CRO, there are not rooms blocked specifically for each.

The plan for AKV always included Kidani and Jambo. Work on both areas started at about the same time, though Jambo obviously finished much sooner.

I would also say it's unclear what the primary motivation was for the conversion of AKL rooms. Were those rooms not selling and needed to be converted? Or did DVC need rooms fast to cover the gap before BLT opened... and those rooms were the slowest selling of the possible conversions?

I think both. It seemed to be pretty routine that people were getting upgrades from standard views because they had alot of empty rooms.
