Day One – Baton Rouge

Cast of Characters
Me – DVC Jen
DH – DVC Ian
DD – Kylie age 15
DD – Emily

We woke up bright and early. It is amazing how much energy a person can have at 5am when they are on vacation. LOL

The car was loaded for the most part, so all we had to do was get ourselves together, load the cooler and last minute toiletries…stuff those in the car and go. I do have to take a second to tell you my DH can pack a car with the best of them. Regardless of my good intentions, I can never seem to pack light.

After stopping at Stop and Go for a bag of ice (to put in the cooler) and a coffee for me, we were on the road about 6:30am.

The drive went better than it ever has for us on this leg of the trip. We ran into a little bit of rain, but nothing like we usually do. We stopped at the Louisianna welcome center for a bathroom break and to stretch our legs and we were off again.

Our next stop was in Alexandria. We had planned on stopping for lunch at a rest area, but there wasn’t one when we wanted to stop, nor was there one close. So we stopped at a Cracker Barrel, went in to use the restroom, looked around the shop a bit (bought the girls each a $1.99 car toy, and some candy). Then we had a quick lunch in the car and we set out once more.

We got into Baton Rouge around 2:30ish. We checked into the Hampton Inn. Gotta love frequent flyer miles. This was one of several free hotel stays for us. Our room was ready. We unloaded the car and headed right for the pool.

We played around the pool for a few hours, then went back up to our room. Emily and I showered. Ian and Kylie changed and went to get McDonalds for dinner. Our order was messedup and he ended up having to go back and get the fries…they forgot them. The dressing I ordered with my salad was nevergiven to me and I ended up eating it dry.YUCK. Oh well.. we are on vacation. Hakuna Matata right?

So here I sit now.. typing this trip report..listening to my daughters argue over who is sleeping on which side of the bed they are sleeping on. We are going to watch a severe weather show on the weather channel and then it is lights out. Wake up call is at 5am again. Gotta get out and on the road bright and early so we have some fun time in the afternoon.

Next stop… Tallahassee.

I wonder if we could attempt it sometime.....I hate flying but I know that 26 hours in a car is a long one too........Thanks for your report......sorry about your salad......should have a few on hand in case it happens again......

When we've driven from DFW area it is about 20 hours.
Have a wonderful time on your trip. We'll think about you whle we're at work next week(ok I'm jealous).

The drive really isn't too bad. We take it slow..start out early in the morning..stop by 2-3pm and relax and do fun things the rest of the day.

Everyone in my family is MUCH happier if we take it slow and just make the drive a part of our vacation as well.

Slimpaw.. how about if I tell Mickey hi for you. Would that help at all? ;)

Yes, that would make me feel much better. And, if you go to VWL, tell Ranger Stan hello too.
