I figure the subject might creat some curiosity.

DW was against DVC. We just went to HH (from NJ). However on the way down we decided to stop at Williamsburg and take advantage of another timeshare (i.e. take the tour and receive a hotel room for three nights for virtually nothing). When we walked into the Comfort Inn room (which is a quality orgainization), DW advised me that I spoiled her and the room is NOT up to par with the DVC studio that we stayed in May or what we planned on staying in at HH.

I think I just raised the bar.

See my other post on HH

I have always been an advocate of raising one at the bar. :p

You raised the bar and your cost of hotel rooms for all non-DVC vacations! :)

Been members of DVC since kikds were babies, well we had pre cruise stay in a very, very nice Marriott and the kids walked into the hotel room, looked around and said "Where is the fridge and stove and where do YOU sleep? Boy oh boy, the next trip we went camping to show them the real world, and they truly enjoyed that too.

I am confused isn't camping staying at the place without the fridge & stove?

I don't like camping...did it once, the old fashioned way...my idea of camping now is a comfort inn lol lol lol

Camping was in a tent without a bathroom or lights much less fridge and stove. I realized that these two kids didn't have a clue that all vactions were not the luxury that DVC provides. Nor the size. Actually, the cruise had the normal small rooms and that began the thought process for them but the common areas on the Disney Magic were so grand that it was lost sort of too. Now, we just have a normal middle class house in the city, and I feel that our vacations are luxury. DVC and its sizes and amentities are never lost on me or DH. I didn't like that a 4 year old wasn't 100 percent happy with a 4 star Marriott hotel. So keeping with the theme of the thread, boy oh boy......DVC sure did raise the bar!!

Oh, Niagara2, I love it! My 4-year old's first plane trip she remembers was using frequent flyer miles to Orlando in 1st class. The next time she got on an airplane in coach her displeasure was highly evident.....not sure what kind of lifelong problems we might be creating, especially once she gets used to DVC villas!

It just gets worse. My DD12 is in training to be a travel critic when she grows up. She already has a good grasp on the concept of service, and will tell us when she thinks it isn't up to par. We stayed a night at the Wyndham I-drive on our May/June trip, and she declared it a "dump"! She LOVED the cruise. We are very middle class, splurge on vacations too, and I'm pretty sure that she thinks Mom & Dad will be covering the vacation bill for the rest of our lives! Diana

DVC sure has raised the bar for us. If we are staying somewhere besides WDW we usually look for a Residence Inn or Homewood Suites. A regular hotel room just doesn't cut it for us anymore.

That doesn't sound like a vacation to me, that sounds like hell and a punishment much worse than the "crime" of having good taste! Sorry, but I am a city girl through and through :) I have to say that I also am unimpressed by most standard hotel rooms, though when we stayed at the Willard Intercontinental in Washington, DC I was impressed (even without the kitchen, it was a gorgeous room in a gorgeous hotel!) I hope no one drags me out to pee in the woods because of it! :jester:

Lisa (who does realize the point you're trying to make with your kids!)

I am trying to make my children understand that the whole world isn't luxury and being waited on. We can camp and have a grand time as we are together. They are cub scouts and learning survival is am important life lesson (think blackout we just experienced in our household). On cruises we saw some real poverty and it upset them, I used that to teach about compassion and giving to those that do not have the basic needs of life met. They will not grow up thinking that everything is handed to them on a silver platter. They have to work for the nicer things in life. They need to learn to provide and care for themselves under many different conditions. Now, with that being said, I am sure glad we work hard and play hard with DVC making it all the better!! I hope they grow up and get great jobs and take good old Mom and Dad on trips too! They are good kids and as each year progresses values come out stronger. They would love to go camping again but I could do without. I went for them, not for me. LOL!!
