I had a lengthy discussion with the Member Satisfaction Team on Friday about who pays for internet access while staying at a DVC resort.

The information provide to Disney Cast Members and Advisers was contradictory and provided more questions than answers.

The issue was referred for clarification and this was the response.

Any Member or Guest staying on membership points at a DVC resort is entitled to free internet access. Policy is subject to change at anytime.

The policy is going to be re-written and forwarded to all Cast Members and Advisers involved with the DVC.

So is that "guest" as in the POS or "guest" by others' terminology? A guest in the POS is someone staying with the member or someone who has not compensated the member for the reservation. Lots of members who rent their points consider any of their customers "guests".

Exactly my question too!

Anyone staying using points is entitled to free internet access while staying at a DVC Resort..

And what about the inbound II exchange guest? They are staying on someone's points in a matter of speaking.

I'm going to guess "NO" on the II trades, as they also are not entitled to other DVC Member discounts. Do their room keys say "DVC Member"?

Usually, inbound keys do not say DVC member. On a recent inbound, though, mine did, and my internet fees were comped. I suspect someone goofed setting up my account for the week, but I wasn't quite up to pointing it out.

Another few weeks in purgatory for that one, I suppose. ;)

We are heading down in October with an II trade from our Marriott to OKW for the week. We are also DVC members. Wonder if we will be able to get free internet as DVC members even though that stay is through an II trade rather than DVC points? Will be interesting to find out if free internet is really a DVC perk or a room ressie type perk.

Does this mean that if I pay Member's cash (because the room wasn't available on points), I won't get free internet access?

I am going to guess that member cash nights, reserved through MS, will get free internet, as those nights are often linked to points stays. Cash nights through CRO, however, would not get free internet, even if you are a member. But if an AP discount is available, it often mush better than member cash, so even with the $10 fee, you save $$

I just got back. The system isn't without flaws. When when first tried to connect we had an error and it said to dial 56 on the phone for someone to help you. That help was very simple and a quick fix, but we had that error every time the 24 hour cycle would end, so we'd have to call back everyday and go through the same process. The night before we checked out I went to the front desk to pay cash for some room charges and I had been charged for one day's use of internet and they had the charge taken off.

That being said, we sure did enjoy having the internet access which enabled me to do live trip reports with photos. I took my wireless router and it work like champ. We had two laptops with us, so we had someone online just about all the time, whether in the room or out on the porch. This is a nice perk. Call me cheap but I wouldn't use the internet service if it weren't free, $50 for five nights is ridiculous. You can get for free at most motels.
