dvc insurance

Has anyone ever bought the insurance for their dvc stay? We are going in March and are having to borrow points from our next use year, which begins in April. My only concern is that I might have to cancel due to mom's cancer, if something should happen. If I cancel, I have to rebook the points for a trip by the end of this use year or lose them. That would mean I'd have to rebook for the same time frame which wouldn't be happening. Of course, we're hoping nothing happens but if we had to cancel, would the insurance really help? I think member services can allow me to put the points back on next year but there's no guarentee and I've heard it's decided on a case by case basis.

The insurance returns about $5 per point - you do not get your points back. I don't remember the cost.

If you are talking about this March and have already booked the trip, it may be too late to get the insurance. Ask MS.

Sorry about your Mom's cancer -

While we haven't bought trip insurance on any of our trips, in your case it might make sense. As Carol indicated, it might be too late already but it doesn't hurt to check.

I really wouldn't count on this. Disney is pretty good at one-time resolutions but usually for unforeseeable circumstances. In this case, I'm not sure you'd be able to get the points "unborrowed".

Very sorry to hear of your Mom's cancer, and best wishes to you and your family at this difficult time.

I would contact MS now, explain to them the situation with your mother.

I have no doubt in my mind, that they will work with you.

They may ask for some proof she does have cancer, but I think you will find them very flexable.

I told the cm at booking about the situation. He said I would receive insurance info in the mail. He also said he thought disney would work with me if I did have to change it but that he couldn't guarentee it up front. My mom has had a really good week so we are hoping the chemo is working and not only will we be able to do our trip next month, but she'll be able to go with us on our annual sept. and dec. trips later this year.

Thanks for the help and the well wishes.
