Ok, so I booked a 7 night cruise on the Fantasy for our 25th anniversary! I did book it using points even though I know the majority believe it is more cost effective to book in cash and rent your points. We had our reasons for doing it this way and we would not have been able to do what we wanted if we booked in cash. So now my question is if anyone else has booked a cruise with points, did you get the DVC insurance. I didn't yet because what it sounds like is you would only be reimbursed for the cash value of your dues. That is a lot less than the actual cash value of the cruise. Has anyone bought outside insurance and if so, how does that work since you don't have an actual cash receipt? If you did book insurance either way, how did it work out for you? I really do want to get insurance because our cruise is 13 months away and who knows what could happen in that time. Any advice would be greatly apprecitate!!

We sail on DVC points all the time and get the insurance. You get back the price per point not the dues so if it is determined that it is 15 per point you get that much back if you cancel. We really like the medical coverage through DVC which is helpful in foreign countries. DVC insurance is a lot lower than if you were sailing on $$ and purchasing travel insurance that way. I hope this helps.

Thanks so much. It is helpful to get info from someone who has used it before!!

Just another quick question. How do you find out the price per point? Thanks!!

You get what you pay for dues back. The price of dues per point of a given Use Year is on the dues statement sent to us each year.

I believe that if you had to use more than one UY's worth of points, you get to pay the premium for each UY of points you used.

And it only covers pre-existing medical conditions if you purchase the insurance by January. This means if you haven't purchased yet and cancel due to a pre-existing condition, you will only be reimbursed for 2016 points used.

Definitely read the coverage and then call the provider with any questions. -- Suzanne
