DVC Indifference?

I live out west, so the big question always asked is "Why don't you just go to California and do Disneyland???" Well, been there, done that, and we just prefer heading to Florida more!

Fortunately, one of my co-workers is also a member of DVC and she and I always talk Disney. We are planning a combined trip with both sets of points in October 2003 and taking another friend and her family for their first trip to WDW! (that is how we did WDW the first time with another friend who is a DVC member and she took us on her points and from then on, we were hooked!!!)

Unfortunately, due to state's laws, my friend got nothing for referring us to DVC, and I got nothing for referring my co-worker to DVC.

We're in southern Lousiana also. Most of the people we've told about WDW & DVC tell say, "we have Astroworld a few hours away, so why would we want to go all the way to Florida for the same thing?" I've given up trying to explain. We've been members since '94 and have only had one referral.

As a life long Houstonian and former employee of Astroworld your friends don't have a clue about WDW. Astroworld is not even on the map with WDW & DVC.

Yes some people "Just Don't Get It".

We generally get the "Ew, you mean like a timeshare?"...to which we have to say,"yes, but its Disney....we decide when we go, where we stay, and how long" Most then admit.."wow, that sounds pretty nice"

But most of our family either really can't afford regular vacations, or don't feel its a priority.

DisDreams....WELCOME to the DisBoards! :) :) :)

I had the same thoughts when I read what Shadeaux's friends had said, comparing WDW and AstroWorld!

Maybe it's just as well that lots of people "don't get it"....if everyone felt like us we'd never be able to budge once inside any of the WDW parks.

Astroworld. There is no comparison.

We live about 45 minutes away and have not been in years.
Looking forward to the 16 hour drive to WDW in November.:)

Dh and I run into the same reaction. We've been going to WDW for the last 13 years and now with the kids grown and away from home, we find we enjoy it as much, if not more than when they were with us. Family and friends just look at us like we're crazy, so we try not to talk about our trips much.
We finally bought into DVC and our biggest regret is that we didn't do it many years ago.

The reaction we usually get is "you spent how much on that?". For the people we do tell, it isn't in any way to sound as if we a boasting as to what we have done. Most people can't believe that we've spent that much on a "vacation". Years from now, I hope to be able to remind those people of how much we spent on our vacation (when we are going on just our annual dues). No one has caught on to the idea that we could bring them with us or set up accommodations for them. I wonder if they'd look at things a little differently if they understood the big picture. Fortunately for us, we'll just keep that tidbit of information to ourselves. I enjoy the information I get here.

We bought because a neighbor was telling us about how happy he was with DVC. He did get a credit when we bought. I doubt we will ever refer anyone.
