I think I know who your taking about he told me the cruise ship was sailing out of California in 2011, and we would start building DVC in California this year....
Unfortunately, rumors are just that...rumors. Eagle Pines and Newport Beach DVCs were never built, even after "official" announcements. The west coast cruises wouldn't surprise me, as two ships are under construction.
I just returned from DL and had asked each Guide at DVC how hard it was to try to sell a DVC located in Florida to people in CA? They all implied that they were just getting numbers to see if there is interest and then went on to say that in the near future there would be a DVC in CA.
Rumors are just that and maybe the Guides are starting them, but that is what they all said.
I talked to a guide who knows one of the managers at the California hotel. They said that the manager was in traing for the California DVC but then about a month ago they were told it was on hold since they could not pre-sell a DVC in California. Take it for what is worth.
It seems likely that at some point DVC will build at DL. Land is probably the issue. Keep in mind, many people on this board were certain that CR was going to be the next location and there was little to no talk about AKL.
Bottom line: Only Disney knows and likely that do not know right now.
I thought it was odd the he also had showed me where exactly the property would be built, aside from a newpaper clipping from the LA Times. Maybe he is just trying to get a sale?
I just got back from DL and asked at least 10 sales people about dvc in california and they all said they had heard nothing. I pried further by shaing that I had heard they were adding on to Grand California in the Valet Lot and the wedding site. Only one looked suprised and said that it was a rumor they were going to do that but there was a problem between disney and the city of anaheim and those future plans are on hold while they work out their differences. The other 9 salespeople said that was news to them. I'll give it to them, they have good poker faces.
My thoughts are that they should make one floor of each hotel dvc so that california people can get the good point rates. They don't need to have maid service each night. If they are not booked by dvc (they most likely would be) then they can book out to regular guests. I bought into DVC and would love to have the same point advantage that WDW members have.
I wish they would hurry up!
