DVC/II question

Ok, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes--I am a new DVC member (just closed on our SSR property last week, and already added on at AKV!!). Anyway, we also own a Hyatt timeshare, and I'm thinking of trying to trade it into II to get DVC. Two questions--has anyone had any luck doing this? We're looking at early November, going to need 2 studios at any property. I realize it might be a longshot, but worth a try. Also, as a DVC member, can I add the DDP to a reservation I made through an II trade, or is DDP allowed only with DVC pts reservation?

Any help/insight would be appreciated!

Welcome Home. I can't speak as to the availability of trades, as I only own DVC, not another timeshare.

There are a few basic things to consider. If your Hyatt timeshare is in the greater Orlando area, you can not trade into DVC. There is a regional block.

If you are able to trade into DVC through II, you're still going to be assessed the "resort fee" that DVC charges to II guests. I think it is $75. Even if you are a DVC member.

Yes, if your trade is successful, you can add the DDP. Simply call MS when you get your II confimation.

Good luck with your trade. I'm sure one with more experience trading into DVC will see this thread and answer about availability.

Thanks, Chuck. Our Hyatt timeshare is in Key West (pretty sure that's not "greater Orlando" ). Hyatt is a rather small timeshare group, with only a few resorts, none of which are in Orlando. That is good info for the future, in case we ever decide to buy another timeshare. Probably would only buy DVC in Orlando, though.

Glad to hear we can add the DDP. I wasn't sure on that one! I did know about the resort fee--I thought I had read it was $95 now.

Thanks for the info! Still looking for input from others...

We have traded into Disney through II several times. Mostly we have gotten studios- but we want 1 BRs which is why we just bought into DVC:banana:.

The best way to do it is to call II and put in a request and have them do the searching for you. That way you will be first to get it if it comes up. We had great luck with this. It would be helpful if you have some flexibility though. Just a warning II will call you incessently and tell you there is no way you are getting into Disney and offer you other choices- STAND YOUR GROUND! LOL You might want to switch your phone # in your profile to your cell or something if you don't want them calling during dinner.

As far as time of year goes, I don't think it matters all that much. I just saw a studio at SSR available through II for Dec 21-28th! We have one week left in II and I have been checking to see if we could eek out one more Disney week out of them.

good luck!
Carla

Early November will be hit or miss but I would suspect you have a decent chance. Remember many units have come and gone for that time though with II. Also remember that a studio and 1 BR will be about the same in terms of availability and in cost with the same exchange fee and same $95 resort services fee PER UNIT.
