DVC - If I could do it again...

Hi all,

I just returned from vacation in WDW, I stayed at the All-Star Movies Resort. My family and I fell in love with the place. I am seriously considering joining the DVC. If you only had one thing you could do differently when joining, what would it be?

I would've toured ALL resorts before buying. I would've bought with my heart rather than my pocketbook. I would've purchased ONLY small contracts from the start....several of them.

Things I am glad I did:

Researched UY to get one that works well for our family.

Learned a lot from the dis before I purchased.

Wished I had joined three years ago! For the amount that I spent on previous trips, I would have paid for more then half of our contract!!

Also bought more points, which I will eventually do anyways!

We just bought whatever resort DVC was selling, then found our hearts were someplace else, and did the buy/sell thing to own there.
Also, I'd never spent any time on the DIS DVC board until AFTER we joined. I guess I thought it was some unwritten rule that you had to be a member before you could come here. Wrong! Lots of great people with lots of great info.

I would have done it 15 years ago. When I think of all the $$ I spent renting houses at the shore, and all the money we spent on WDW trips over the years I could have about 1000 points in DVC!!!

We would have joined sooner and we would have split our large first contract into two contracts. We purchased 375 points our first time and I wish we had done 200 and 175 for our contracts instead of one large contract.

I echo with the people who said they would have bought earlier! Since we're on the West Coast, the bulk of our Disney trips have been at DL. After my DH and I went to DW this past summer (his 1st trip there), we really researched DVC, especially through the DIS boards. Make sure you have a list of questions you want to ask your guide before taking the plunge! We're glad we did !!

I wish that we had bought BWV when it was first available.We have 2 150 pt contracts now and hope to add another 150 next year!

when we bought our BWV pts in 2002 they were $66 a pt. Wish we bough more then.

I wish we had bought several smaller contracts spread out between 3 resorts. Most of our points are at SSR, and we like that for the extra 12 years, but I wish we had about 100-150 OKW points and 100-150 BWV in addition to those--the OKW points so we could get those low-points grand villas sometimes, and the BWV points so we could book standard view rooms there during F&W sometimes.

I agree with SCDizeyDawn! We would have bought sooner and split our initial contract of 300 into two 150 contracts. We just did an add-on of 120 points with the incentive being offered now.

Absolutely love where we bought into - twice! Looking forward to many years to come of wonderful trips to see The Mouse.

I would have bought a year earlier. We thought about it and waited. We missed buying when the passes to the parks were included when you stayed at the condo.

We could have paid for our membership with the money saved not buying passes to the parks.

Oh Well!!

50 Vacations later we really have no regrets!!
