shelbyjosh,
The 10 - 15 minute guide for length of time spent in hot tubs is simply a guide and only that. The normal average temperature of hot tubs is anywhere from 101 F - 104 F, again a guide not the
absolute rule. The average temperature of the human body is 98.6 F. When the human body temperature goes higher than 98.6 F a condition called
Hyperthermia starts to occur. This is why you will feel sweaty (the body trying to cool itself down) more tired than normal (your heart works harder to try and pump blood faster through you body to to cool down through your head, arms and legs). These symptoms do not mean that you may have health concerns, but they are a WARNING of the possibility that problems could and will occur if your unsure of your health fitness.
The temperature warnings near hot tubs are very real and not to be taken lightly, evne more if you don't know what your state of health is reguardless of your age. And especially with childeren, the young ones bodies react much more intense than us when the human body tries to protect itself. Like I said the "guide" is a generic time frame and only you will be able to determine how long you can enjoy the therapy of hot tubs or spas dependent of your state of health.
A quick suprise to add, next time you enjoy that bath at home or on the road, stick a thermometer in that water if you enjoy them "hot" baths. You'll be suprised how much higher the temperature of water you enter is compared to the industry "standard" of hot tub spa temperature is set at for units today.
And you loved that great feeling to be able to pass out on the bed after a nice "warm" bath - You were really suffering from some level of Hyperthermia. Enjoy the water, just be safe!
I own a hot tub spa myself and no ones suits cheap or expensive have suffered any ill effects from the Bromine treatment that I use and we use it all year round here on Long Island. Yes doing water only rinses does increase the life of fabrics and colors and we do it ourselves. Now the hot tubs and spas at the resorts are sanitized very greatly and with good reason, sitting 6 people in @ 800 gallons of water on a very fequent basis requires this drastic treatment to maintain safe bacteria levels. Picture 25 people in a 12' round pool to get the same effect. The downside is that treatment level does take its toll on your suits, so keep that leftover suit for the resorts and the nice ones for the pool and beaches.
