Ok, so I have read this board over and over and over and my wife and I are still going back and forth. Here is our situation...

My wife and I every year love to stay in a one bedroom villa in October, usually the week right before Columbus day. We usually go from Saturday to the following Sunday. We have always stayed at BCV.
Given those parameters, what do you think our best course of action would be? I understand that paying $5,000 a trip is not a good deal in the long run when there is the DVC option out there for us, so that is why we are looking into this.

How would you go about joining DVC at this point looking to maximize points for length of stay plus trying to keep cost relatively down while having BCV be a home resort?

We have kicked around every idea we can think of including resale. One we even came up with today is buying resale at OKW and then doing a smaller point amount add on at BCV. Would this make sense?

I think I am going to make this a "questions me and my wife have come up with" thread because we are spinning right now.

Thanks in advance,
Patrick.

If you really want to stay at BCV then you should buy a resale there. October is very popular there because of the Food and Wine Festival. Also Columbus Day weekend is getting busier and busier. The way to stretch your points is to stay Sunday thru Friday. Just my two cents.

Patrick,

I sent you a PM the other day...Not sure if that is something you would be interested in, but let me know.

Jason - Check your inbox.

As far as stretching points, I understand what is being said with Sunday through Friday, but we like to stay longer. Usually Saturday to Sunday or some other form of 9 days that would have to involve the weekend.

I like the advice though, it is exactly what we are looking for!

Keep in mind that you only get to use the 11 month booking window for the points that apply to that resort. So, if your thought was that you could do the BCV add on to get the earlier priority, it will only be for the BCV points. If you intend to use both your OKW and BCV points, you'll have to wait until the 7 month window to make your reservations.

If you want to stay at BCV, my suggestion is to buy all of your points at BCV even though it is more expensive. We bought some of our points via re-sale and didn't have any troubles and it saved us some money.

Good Luck.

You'll very likely want to purchase BCV.

You'll very likely want to do it via resale - you can purchase BCV through Disney if you are persistant and willing to go on a waitlist for points.

You should be prepared to pay more per point for BCV.

You will want to find a late summer/September sort of use year in ideal circumstances. We go when you do and have an April use year, which is fine.

Thanks for all of the responses. I guess the reason we have so many questions is because last October when we took the tour, our guide didn't care what we had to sy or questions to ask, but I got to learn all about how he has his family stay in a 2 bedroom villa every year. OK, rant over. (we just called to change our guide, lol)

Use year is a whole other issue that we need to tackle also. I am so glad we have our DISers to help us! Basically I am getting that as long as we go in October, anytime before that in the year will be fine?

Thank you also for clearing up the split points purchase question. I thought we could use all of the points we owned, even if it was split between two contracts.

Ok, one more question.

Because we had ourselves talked out of buying at one point, we booked our trip for October with a couple of friends of ours in a One Bedroom Villa at BCV.
My question is, will that help us at all with DVC or if we bought now would we just be out that money and we have next year to look forward to?
Also, one more question, how important is credit through TSS? We were approved through Disney when we went on the tour (we were thissssss close to buying then) so I am not anticipating any problems, but how much different is it through them?

Thanks again,
Patrick.

I think the best way to "stretch" in your situation is to look at BWV instead of BCV. Getting enough points for a week in a standard view BVV is going to be a lot cheaper than buying enough points for BCV.

Oh, and your trip this year isn't going to help or hurt you for buying into DVC. Consider that suck cost.

If you think that you will always be traveling in October, then yes, a UY between Feb and Sept would work for you since if you had to cancel, you would still be in your 8 month banking window.

You can use them together, but as Mousetraveler mentioned, you can't do that until the 7 month mark.

If you have already rented points for October, then I don't think that buying now would buy you too much for your October trip except that you would have your DVC card for the various perks.

Actually, we ummm....paid cash at rack rate.....GASP! :headache: :scared:

In that case, would you get upset if you couldn't book BCV and instead could only book OKW or SSR?

If the answer is no, then you could purchase DVC, cancel your cash reservation and then rebook using your points.

If the answer is yes, then my previous response is still valid.
