DVC Guides - what am I missing?

I don't think you are missing anything. We have only spoke to our guide twice since buying, and that was because he called trying to sell us addon.
We may addon soon, but it will be thru a resale, much better deal for what we would be buying. So no need for guide.
 
You don't really need a guide. If you are a member then you have one. Ours moved up in the company and were assigned a new one. Don't even know his name... He called once to tell us he is our new guide and asked if i wanted to add on. My response was..."...not at $130 a point i don't!!!" So i never heard from him again. :confused3 We had planned to swing by the SSR sales office to meet him but just did not bother in the end.
 
We loved our original guide (after my husband gave her such a hard time when we joined). She retired and we were floating aroud without a guide. When our best friends bought in (we were with them) their guide said- I'm going to be your guide too... if that's ok. Put on the spot we said ok. So far he messed up our referral perk and when I called him kind of acted like I didn't know what I was talking about. So I called his boss and got instant results.
 
We had a positively wonderful guide so perfect for Disney low key sweet and always was patient with us. We recommended him many times because we trusted him. Unfortunately as the world goes our guide retired I hope he is enjoying himself we always looked forward to seeing him when we went. I am not thrilled with our new guide assigned to us very pushy and impersonal what a shame.....
