When you order groceries and they are delivered to your room by bell services, they charge a $6 fee.

Do you personally also tip on top of that? Seems redundant to me, but maybe I misunderstand what the $6 fee is for?

I do.

I agree that the $6 fee is kind of odd, especially because it doesn’t matter if you have 1 bag of groceries or 20. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes I tip. The $6 is a Disney processing fee. I view it like using bell services to do anything else- they are baseline paid by their employer but you are still expected to tip for moving your stuff.

The $6 fee is not a tip, so I do tip Bell Services for bringing anything to my room.

Thank you for the replies. Seems like it is just another way for Disney to further nickle and dime. They do not charge the fee if the groceries are picked up by the guest, so it is odd that it is not for the bell services CM.

I sort of get it. Bell services handling your groceries isn’t part of the baseline deal so Disney offloads part of their overhead for it to the select customers who use the service.

I am sure that there is a lot of overhead involved with grocery delivery and it is only getting to be more popular, so I'm sure it takes a lot of work. But do our dues not pay their salaries already?

Apparently it is not included in your dues anymore than it is included for cash stays seeing as both pay the surcharge…

So bell services is paid for by the valet parking fees and the grocery handling fees? Or Disney pays their salaries out of their own pockets, even at DVC-exclusive resorts like Riviera and Saratoga Springs?

Sounds like you have an inquiry for member services.

I asked the front desk the first time I was charged $6 and they couldn't explain to me why for example they charge for that but not luggage storage and delivery, nor could they explain what the $6 fee covers. Was it a tip? Was it a delivery charge like Uber Eats? They just took it off my bill (or gave me a $6 credit to cancel it out I forget which) without really getting into it. Perhaps I asked the wrong person but I genuinely wanted an explanation. I am not in the habit of paying fees for no good reason.

Are you talking about groceries ordered through DVC? Last time we ordered groceries through DVC at RR they charged us a $10 fee and the groceries were waiting for us in our room when we got there.

A frontline CM isn’t going to be able to help you. If you sincerely want to know about this and your dues you need to contact DVC and start working your way up a food chain.

No this is if you get groceries delivered via Instacart or some other third party service to Bell Services at the resort, they store the groceries and deliver it to your room for a $6 fee.

I believe the $6 fee came about when grocery deliveries were increasing in popularity with Instacart, Amazon, etc. IMO, this was a way to curb grocery deliveries and to keep bell services staff available for luggage handling.

I'm not seeing why this is complicated. Disney bell services will deliver luggage to the room complimentary. They will accept grocery deliveries, store them, and will bring those groceries to the room for a $6 fee. They don't charge to store the groceries. They just charge a few dollars to bring them to the room. It's been that way for awhile now, and the $6 has saved us a lot of elbow grease some trips. A lot of families have a lot of groceries delivered some trips because of the make up of the DVC rooms. If you don't want to pay $6 as part of the trip, then just go pick them up at bell and take them to the room. Whenever possible, we have the luggage and groceries brought up together, and then tip on that - not specifically the grocery delivery. But the bell person gets a nice tip bringing all that stuff up for us!!

But if the charge only applies for delivery to the room, what is it for? Is it just an extra $6 in the mouse's pocket? If it doesn't go to the bellhop, what does it go toward?
