DVC greeting at PC?

I just received voicemail from DVC about complementary meet and greet and adult beverages at PC. Is this new? What is this all about? I know there was something on board but not before you board?? I know it's a sales pitch to buy more points. Is it worth attending?

It's the standard DVC reception. It's basically a sales pitch to existing members but they do give away prizes and free drinks. If you have the extra hour to burn, it's fun to go and meet others on the cruise that are DVC members. Depending on the crew there is usually a hokey game played too. We always go. They usually but not always have a character appearance exclusive to the event (once Stitch & others Captain Mickey). They will have other presentations/receptions throughout the cruise but the first day is supposed to be exclusive to current members. I've never seen them ask for anyone's proof of membership though.

Thanks the voicemail made it sound like it's done in port. They asked us to arrive about 20 mins prior to have a private meet and greet. We will check it out. Thanks

Pretty much our experience. For some reason the DVC reception has moved from a sea day to embarkation day. They also provide updates on changes made or that are upcoming so I find that worth the time. I ignore the sales pitch but take advantage of the drinks and goodies, plus its fun and helps set the mood for the cruise. At our last two DVC member receptions they checked our names off on a list they had. Not sure if that was to see if we were members, or to get an idea of how many DVC members were attending. We just gave them our names and cabin numbers, we didn't need to provide any proof of membership

There are two parts to this. At Port Canaveral, DVC has a little station where they are handing out lanyards and want you to stop by to pick one up. Then once on the ship there is the Member Celebration, it was from 2:30-3:30 on embarkation day on the Dream last week. They tell you to arrive a bit early for the character M&G. They do have you scan your KTTW card when you come in to make sure you're on their list (they used to just do this by hand using pen and paper).

I have noticed in the past 2 years that this has become more of a "game" where they split up the two sides of the room to compete against each other - of course it always ends in a tie. It's no longer the celebration of the members that it was in the past. I'm not sure how many more of these I will make an effort to go to. There are fewer raffle prizes and less getting to know the other members in attendance. Plus they seem to not acknowledge you as much as a member unless you're wearing your DVC lanyard or hat to advertise for them. After a few cruises wearing the DVC lanyard I've decided I prefer to wear my Castaway Club lanyard b/c it seems to elicit a better response from crew members because they know I've sailed before and gives them a conversation starter.

Thank you for all the information. We are traveling with friends who are not DVC. Will they be allowed to attend with us? if not then we may skip this.

I think your friends will be allowed, but am not 100 percent sure.

We go beacause of the raffle and drinks. The last few times we went they did give prizes to folks who crazy danced. The presentations have changed over the years, the crazy dancing part should hopefully disappear at some point!

Where is the station located @ PC?

It will be on the side of the terminal where the check-in desk's are. It's a kiosk structure and there will usually be at least one or two DVC representatives there. I don't think you could miss it.
