Any idea when the Grand California resort will be available for DVC members to book?

No idea, but we saw them building it last week -- they are still working on the frame of the building, so I would guess it wont be ready for some time!

I was there 2 weeks ago, it has a long way to go, I think the projected opening is the end of next year. I don't know if it's a rumor or confirmed, but the first sales will go to people who bought DVC while at DL, then other current members if there is anything left. With only 50 DVC rooms, rumor is that it will be difficult for non-home resort members to book.

Yes that is what I have heard too. The people who bought their DVC at DL will get first crack at buying points for VGC. They are being called Founding Members. I heard it was only going to be a two week period, then it opens to the rest of the DVC population, then everyone else, and probably not until next year.

You can still use points to book stays at GCH now.

Yeah, speculation is Founding Members will be offered to buy starting in about August... CA laws apparently say a building has to be at a certain point towards completion before it can be put up for sale.

Founders will get first dibs (yay me! ), but will be limited to buying about 160 points. Then other existing DVC members get the chance to buy, also to that limit. Remaining points will be available for public sale. At this point, but Founders and DVC members will be able to add on to the points they may have already bought.

This info is part from the DVC Getaway Days open house they had a few weeks ago, plus from a thread in the DVC Planning forum.

And yes, it sounds like the GCV will open sometime last year. I believe if you buy points before then, they are essentially on hold until the property actually opens.
