Does anyone have personal insite on golfing with DVC Discounts or the best way to price golfing on site?

I remember reading something about a DVC discount, then a 'seasonal or yearly membership' that would give you additional discounts? I am very fuzzy on what it was.

If any DVC golfers out there could give a average palyer some advice it would be great. Time of year to go, time to sched T-off.....

Thanks
T.

Right now the golf courses have a great special after a certain time each day, which I think would beat any discounts or the discount cards.

Here is the link:

My Dad is a golf nut and he is coming with us to OKW in September and for sure will take advantage of these deals. They will pick you up and drop you off at your resort by cab for free! Can't beat these rates if you can golf after 10 a.m.....

DVC-Golf Nut-that's DH! I don't think he cares that there are theme parks at his "golf resort"-WDW, because he golfs every day. Last I remember, the golf card cost about $90 per year. It pays for itself in roughly 8 "person rounds"-with the card you can play any course after 10:00am for $35. The savings of that over the summer "price slice special" varies as to which course you play-price slice rates vary with the course. The good news is that for a course such as Osprey Ridge, which I think is $60 with the summer special, you save $25. The bad news is that you have the initial investment of the card. I think the "price slice special" ends sometime in September. For some great info on the different golf courses and rates check:

www.wdwgolf.com

the DVC golf card is usually a 100 a yr but now can be bought for 50 bucks for the remainder of 05. Rounds after ten AM are 30 bucks in this value season. Call 800 WDW GOLF for more info

The DVC golf membership is currently $50 for a year. This card entitles the owner and up to 4 guests to play after 10am for just $35 per round (value season, any course) for an entire year.

Summer tends to be when you'll find the lowest on-site rates due to the head. Right now they are running their "Price Slice" after 10am. Rates vary by course, ranging from $45 - 60 per round. And that's for ALL on-site guests without any additional purchase required.

So, unless you only have one golfer playing 2-3 rounds at the cheapest course, the golf membership is probably the way to go.

(Note the rates quoted above are good through September. Full details on the golf membership can be found at www.dvcmember.com. Non-discounted rates for other dates beyond Sept '05 have yet to be announced.)

Thanks for your help.

i did not see mentioned that a cart was included in the "price slice", but is mentioned as being included in the "reg full price".

and the golf card you mention is that $50 for the remainder of '05 or is it a card that is issued for "one year"

ok.......

I did find that the card is good for 1 year form your date you purchase. what I am still a little confused about is the benefit of a DVC golf membership and a regular Disney Golf membership.

THe Disney one appears to offer more?

There is no "regular Disney Golf membership." Anyone can play a Disney course by paying the applicable rate.

If you go to the Disney Golf site you'll see the prices for day guests. Right now if you do NOT have the DVC golf membership and want to play Osprey Ridge after 10am it will cost $60 per round.

With the DVC golf membership it is $35 per round. So, you would save $25 per round by purchasing the DVC golf membership for $50.

That's just using the current figures. In the fall prices will increase, but the DVC rates will still be lower.

Yes, the cart is included in the price slice special. With the card, after sometime in September, if I remember correctly, the rates are $50 per round, after 10:00am.

Dh always goes golfing and buys wdw 2 for 1 rounds, right from wdw. it depends on the time of year, dec. it was $169. for 2 rounds, april it was $199.
you get to choose which golf courses to play and make your tee times at any time, any days. you have to play both rounds , both rounds can be played on 2 different days. DH likes to play first thing in the morning so he is done by lunch time and not wait until 10am to play.

If you play between now and Sept 29 and play after 3:00 pm, you can play for $25.00--$30.00 a round with cart. My son and I just came back 2 weeks ago, played The Palm and Lake Buena Vista Courses and had a great time. The front nine were a little warm but the back nine was great after 6:00 pm--we teed off at 4:00pm. You can go to the WDW web site and search golf and find out everything you need to know for all 99 holes on property

I have purchased the DVC golf membership in the past and found it to be a good value. But last year I purchased an AP and it included a discount on golf that wasn't too bad. Plus I didn't have the added expense of the DVC golf membership to get the discount. Hey, DVC why not find a way to offer us a competitive discount without the added expense...Maybe we can get the twilight rate earlier in the afternoon...just a thought.

I just came back from an 11 day trip Monday. The DVC membership is $50 for 1 year from purchase month. Right now club and shoe rental is free with the DVC membership. They have two kinds of clubs, Titelist and Cobra. The discount, clubs and shoes apply to everyone in your foursome if you have one. If you are joining a group and they have paid already, it's too late to get them the cheaper round. It's $35 after 10am this time of year.
Gloves were $19 and balls ranged from $10 - $15 for a sleave or a 15 box of pinnicles for $29.
I didn't bring my clubs or intend to play until I learned that the DVC membership was now $50 instead of $85 and clubs were included. Too bad I didn't know before I went, I'd have brought balls and a glove.

Spruce,

Is this a new wrinkle on the golf membership. I just checked the offers page on the dvc website and their is no mention re free club hire. If it is its excellent news as I would prefer not to lug my clubs through 2 international airports.

Did you hire the clubs? Did you play more than once? Which course's and how did you find them?

I have LBV and EP booked in a few weeks time. I have played LBV before

Kylie,
I was told that the free rental is being offered up to the end of the year by Disney recreation. 407-WDW-Golf is the number I believe. At Osprey/Eagle Pines club pick up area I was talking with a cast member and about what a good deal this was and he said Disney loves its DVC members. He thought the free rental would continue beyond December. They will imprint your credit card for $500 as a deposit but not run it, unless I guess if you don't bring them back. They will charge you for a lost club but not a broken club. Just bring the pieces back they said.
I played twice. I played Osprey and Palm. We had some rain so Osprey limited cart path only for about 6 or 7 holes. Palm didn't 2 days later. Osprey was in good shape I thought. I was surprised at the amount of muddy brown spots on Palm in the fairways. The greens on both were good but slow due to the recent rain.
Magnolia is closed, they are lengthening it to (I think they said) 7600 yards from around 7200 for the Funnai Classic.
I did "hire" the clubs and there was no charge to me as a DVC Golf card holder.
I really like LBV. I didn't play it this time. I played the 2 I chose because I hadn't played them before. I have now played them all except the par 3 course.

Tinkaboutit....Any resort is good. Disney will give you a cab fare voucher to get to the course and after you are done the course will give you one back to your resort. Also, if you are playing multiple times at different courses, Disney will store your clubs and have them sent to the next course you are playing.

Thanks Bruce, I love the 7th island hole at LBV althougth it has cost me a ball ..... or two ;)

Thanks for all this great Info! Keep it coming....

Thats great to hear about free club rental. I was wondering if I should rent or if it was actually cheaper to purchase a hard case and fly with. I was looking at going down strictly for a golf week.

It was also mentioned that this discount of FREE Clubs and shoes with the DVC membership would apply to the whole foursome. Is that correct? It seems to be REALLY too good an offer. The other players do not have to be DVC Members?

Thansk again....
T.

As my friend flys tomoorow I checked with WDW Golf and Spruce is spot on member +3 subject to availabilty (they do not expect to run out of clubs)

:flower::sunny: :)

This is great news! DH and I were hoping to fit in a round on our trip next month, but only if the flow of the trip led to it. This way, we won't have to haul clubs with us. Will remember to pack shoes, balls and gloves, though!
