Has anyone purchased the one year golf membership for $85? Am I understanding this correctly that if 2 people golf once at the most expensive course it still saves you money? Is the DVC member the only one that buys the $85 membership and then anyone up to 3 additional persons golf at any of the courses for $95 in March? Are tee times difficult to get? Any recommendations on courses would be greatly appreciated! This will be our first time golfing any of the courses there.
Thanks much for the info!

I purchased the golf membership in December and it was great. You are correct, the DVC member is the person who purchases the membership. I had to show membership card to verify that I was a DVC member. After that the foursome then plays at reduced rates. I think our rate for golf during Christmas week was $50.00 per person. A lot cheaper then the 120 that nonmembers paid.
The only stipulation was tee times can not be reserved prior to 10:00 AM. As for the courses they were all great, as we played the Palm, Magnolia, Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge. Each was different in its own way. Eagle Pines & Osprey Ridge are a little more forgiving for an errant shot, but at the Palm and Magnolia you can check to see how you fair against the big boys.

Hope this helps

DH has purchased the golf membership. It's good for one year and I think it counts until the end of the month one year from when you purchase. For instance, if you purchase April 10, 2004 I think it is good until April 30, 2005. We usually try to get two trips on it. From the first part of May through October, the golf rates are only $35 with the card. That's when you really save. It goes up to $50 per round from November till about mid-January, then it goes up to $90. Dates of the three golfing seasons vary a few days each year. You also get a good discount on lessons. Don't forget about Celebration Golf Course. We haven't played it yet, but the rates are pretty good. Can't remember if it's tied to the card or not. We did not have any trouble at all making tee times. We usually went right at 10:00 or a few minutes after. Had lunch after our round and were in the parks around 4:00 or so.

Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines are really great courses, as are the older Magnolia and Palm courses (where they play the professional tournament). Lake Buena Vista is a nice course, winds through OKW and the old empty Treehouse Villas, but it's quite a big tighter with narrow fairways. The Magnolia has the Mickey Mouse shaped sand trap. There's also a little 9-hole course. The Osprey Ridge course has turned Payne Stewart's locker into a small memorial. They have his clothes, etc. Replaced the wooden door with plexiglas. DH snuck me into the men's locker room when it was empty so I could see it.

We also played a course just south in Haines City. Too many houses around it to recommend it. But I would highly recommend Wild Woods or World Woods (or something like that). It was about an hour north-west of Orlando. Two great courses. No housing development. Just great golf courses at very reasonable rates. If you want more info on that I can ask DH later.

The great thing about WDW courses, is that they provide free transportation to and from the courses by way of taxi (that they pay for). They will also store your clubs for you.

We always go to WDW in late May/early June, specifically because that's when the golf rates are lowest (can you tell why DH goes to WDW?). In 2002, he bought the card and figured it broke even at 7-8 "person-rounds (say, 4 people playing 2 rounds, etc.) It's really probably only worth it if, like a previous poster said, you go twice in one year. Remember, there are even lower rates if you tee off after 2:00 or 3:00. DH has gotten to 4 of the 5 (never gotten to Palm yet) and while he loves Osprey Ridge the best, he finds LBV to be the best for value and a very friendly course. We both love that we stay at OKW, so sometimes I'll plan it to be on the balcony waving at him as he plays by on LBV.

Simply put it all depends on when you go....if you go during peak season, and you are playing with a foresome, it is worth it...If you travel in the summer, and you are not going back again in the same year, it is not
