My friend and coworker owns 100 points at AKL. I own 320 points at BLT.

My family typically stays at AKL because I need the lower point value to stay longer and take more people.
She want to stay on the monorail loop but needs to travel at a peak time due to her husband teaching school- usually holiday times.

How could I book a reservation for her using my BLT points at the 11 month mark and she pay me back with her AKL points?

Points transfer I would assume but not sure how it would all work. Of course, I would only share by BLT points to the max of her AKL points she were willing to trade me.

One last question- they were wanting to do an add on of AKL points but member services told them they could only buy at Polynesian right now. But I know Disney buys back contracts when people default or just sell. I see that sometimes the people try to buy contracts from timeshare resellers and have to wait for Disney "? right of refusal". So is it not possible just to purchase from Disney a resale or a default contract? They do not want to purchase from a timeshare resale place because they want all the perks of buying from Disney direct.

Suggestions?

It would';t work with a point transfer as you are only allowed 1 per UY so once you transfer her points in you can't transfer out.

you could book the nights in her name and she could book you a trip in your name but under her membership.

But make sure first all this is necessary we own AKV and VGF and have found BLT pretty easy to get in

If your friend can not get her DVC direct sales agent to sale her the AKL points, then ask to speak with a supervisor. DVC does have points that they can sale at AKL the commission for those sales are lower than PVB, so her agent is trying to make more monies for him/herself.

You can book their reservation from your DVC account and they can transfer their points in to your account as payback.

You'd just reserve for each other in your account then change the name to the other person. Transfers could work but would complicate the process. As for buying, they can call their guide and get on a wait list if none is available. Make sure they know how much they're paying to get "all the perks" and that they are not guaranteed. If they just want 25-50 that's likely the best route but for a larger contract it would be foolish to pay double in this situation for AKV.

They might make her "waitlist" the AKV points but they usually come through quickly, esp. because they can just ROR a resale contract. Unless she has particular requirements for use year.

We did just this with our friends. We got them BLT for the first 2 weeks of December since we are owners and in return they booked us a room at beach club for the equivalent points this summer. Technically I think they owe me 1 point but I'm not concerned with it. It's easier this way than working about points transfers.

Thanks for the replies. The "perks" she wants is the ability to use the points to book a cruise - even though I have tried and tried to run the numbers for her that this is not the most efficient use of points- And she wants to be able to use the points at the Grand Californian. She has castmember family at Disneyland who can help with park admission but she wants to be able to use her points for her accomodations. I will tell her to be more persistent with her DVC rep. It may just be that she is asking the wrong questions or in the wrong way for them to understand what she is wanting. They told her the only points for purchase are at Poly and that AKL is "sold out" - but I see resales all the time in the TimeShareStore.

So, you want her AKV points, but she doesn't really want your BLT points? Find someone else to rent from, and rent out your own points to cover the cost.

No, she wants the 11 month booking advantage of BLT and I am planning to stay at AKL but am ok with 7 month booking. I was just trying to help her out. She is concerned that if she waits until 7 months out to book BLT with her AKL points she wont be able to get the room that she wants.

I own BLT points and she owns AKL points. No renting needed.

In addition, she wants to purchase more points, preferably at AKL but her DVC rep is telling her the only place she can purchase is at Polynesian.

One suggestion. Book her at BLT 11 months out. You can easily make a reservation under her name using your account. We dThen at 7 months she tries to book at BLT using Her points. If it's available you cancel your reservation. No body loses.

Some people are set on throwing their money away, their choice. All you can do is give her the information. It sounds like VGC might be a good purchase for them.

Agree. Simple problem; don't make it difficult.

This is the best and what I was going to suggest.
As for more points, get her to tell her rep that if they want a sale, it is for AKL only. They will find points for them.

And she wants to be able to use the points at the Grand Californian.

The Grand Californian is actually a DVC resort so it is not part of the "Disney Collection" and if she buys on the resale market, she will still be able to use her points for VGC, assuming of course the benefit of booking at non-home resorts never goes away. That being said, VGC is incredibly difficult to get at 7 months because the DVC portion is small. If she wants to stay there, she should buy there. It is easier to get a ressie at WDW at 7 months because of the amount of resorts available.
