But will it require Genie+ to get a boarding group? I understand that is how it works now, but how will it work once Genie begins? They require you to get a boarding group first, If you get shut out of those, then no, you don’t get to ride,
I went 0-8 during my June and July trips. So the guests I was with who really wanted to ride did not get to. Had there been a pay option, they would have done it in a heartbeat because they won’t be back for several years.
But will it require Genie+ to get a boarding group? I understand that is how it works now, but how will it work once Genie begins?
For ROTR and Remy, it will be getting a boarding group.…which wil continue to be the free opinion…or you pay for IAS and have access that way.
For the other IAS rides, it’s standby or pay. GP+ is for the other rides.
They have stated that you do not need to buy GP+ to pay for the IAS rides. You can simply do that.
So, for those two rides, the process is to either get a BG, pay, or don’t ride.
This. Every ride will continue to have a free option. Read that again for those who want to panic.... EVERY RIDE WILL HAVE A FREE OPTION.
That free option however may not always be one that guarantees you a ride. As Sandi mentioned, for RotR and Remy right now (and it would not surprise me if Tron and a few others end up with this system), you need to pre-register for a boarding group as your free option. That's a craps shoot and you may not get one. This is going to get more interesting when GotG opens.... they can't reasonably put too many rides per park on the reservation system or there will be no reasonable way for someone to get those rides.
I would bet people would be willing to pay a pretty penny however if they had their hearts set on RotR and did not get the BG and there was a pay-to-play option. What will get complicated is how Disney balances all these since they have BG's and PtP and the ride has a max capacity that has to be managed. I wonder if the lightning pass will intelligently adapt so that the busier ride less available seats, the higher the price goes.
The problem is that ride capacity is not enough for the demand. The boarding groups represent a sort of lottery that gives seats based on luck, slightly mitigated by a little bit of strategy. Tokyo uses a similar system for their shows and now for the newest ride. In 5 days I've been there I didn't win a single lottery and ended waiting 90 minutes for a balcony seat on the last day for the one show I really wanted. Though luck, I was a bit disappointed but that's life.As I shared, we didn’t get on ROTR in June or July. My guests had it as their top choice. So, they would have paid without hesitation.
It will be interesting because at least those that are going next year have time to plan and budget for those rides if they want.
But, since there has been no FP for over 18 months people have already had to adjust with standby only.

IAS doesn't create additional seats. If no one pays, the full capacity goes to boarding passes. Let's say 1000 people per hour. If 200 people per hour pay for a pass, only 800 can ride from boarding passes.
It's not just paying to avoid a long queue, people paying are taking seats from people who cannot afford to pay.
No moral judgement on who does it. Like Sandy's friends I really want to try the ride at least once, so I'll consider paying for it If I cannot get in via a boarding group.
Still, this process is disgusting.
The problem is Disney hadn't kept adding enough capacity to meet demand....more rides and shows would help to spread out the crowds. It certainly is something not sitting well with many.
But it is still an option that one didn’t have Maybe had the only piece introduced was IAS and no pay option for Tier 2 it would have gone over better?
I like the idea of the new system with booking day of and holding only one at a time. I think it will work in our favor for those I travel with.
Would I have liked to have a free option still? Sure but our standby lines moved which was nice. With FP+ we were stagnant a lot more.
Again, the budget will adjust based on the trip and guests I am still of the belief it will become part of promotions for cash guests like free dining down the road.
We shall see!
With how Disney has been doing the money grab lately I would expect Genie + only to be included in cash Deluxe Resort stays. This advantage could be significant for those who are desperate to ride Rise of the Resistance.
Still, based on current rumors, it’s going to cost a family of four $80-$100 for this advantage.
I’m a little surprised Disney didn’t include Genie+ in the price of Deluxe Resorts as a way to (cheaply) be more competitive with Universal’s Deluxe Resorts.
It appears Disney really thinks Guests will pay any price to stay at their Deluxe Resorts.
I don't think they will do that. G+ works only if a limited number of people buy it. If they give it away, too many people will have it.With how Disney has been doing the money grab lately I would expect Genie + only to be included in cash Deluxe Resort stays.
There is no doubt the price of Genie+ will change. It's very similar to MaxPass at DL, which started at $10 (at least that's the first price point I remember), went to $15 and is now $20. The same thing has happened to ticket prices, room prices, food prices - it's inevitable Genie+ will go up. It's just a matter of when and how high.

But they are buying it if they are spending $500 or more a night to stay at yacht club, jambo house etc. But it would only be free for cash guests not DVC members.I don't think they will do that. G+ works only if a limited number of people buy it. If they give it away, too many people will have it.
I haven't ridden it yet, myself, but others have also said it's basically a kiddie ride. My guess is that it will only be a LL/Boarding Group attraction until GotG is ready. Then it will become a standard EPCOT attraction available with Genie+I had a chance to ride Rat, thats going to have a lot of empty seats throughout the day if the plan is to keep it as a boarding group attraction. Its a C ticket attraction at best. Thats not saying its bad, its cute and it fits, but its no better or worse than Malestrom.

But everyone had FASTPASS (i.e. the original FP) and FastPass+. They had plenty when Disney gave those away free to everyone.I don't think they will do that. G+ works only if a limited number of people buy it. If they give it away, too many people will have it.

Disney is not giving it away because they don't think they have to. (I suspect Disney is right. I suspect that more than half of all Guests will cough up the extra $15 for Genie+.)
If Deluxe Resort occupancy plummets, then they might do something special for Deluxe Resort Guests. Until then, $$$.
Genie + would not be sustainable if everyone booked it. The good rides and times would be gone early, and those who didn't grab them and paid money for the privilege would be mad. If you didn't get your fave ride, you would probably be annoyed but shrug it off because it was free. if you paid for it, you might call and complain.
they anticipate enough will book it in order to keep cash flow coming but not to overload the system.
Rat is a lot of fun, but once the novelty wears off it won't make sense to keep the VQ. They have lots of room for lines inside.
