Sorry, but wife and I are talking about this and although we go to Disney World every year/every other year, we are looking into DVC. One question we have is, what are the points needed to go to other resorts that aren't Disney in the U.S. or even in Europe? How many do you need? I know this is vague but for example, my wife and I want to go to New York City for a few days, or go skiing in Colorado, or even go visit the Mayan Ruins in Mexico? Is there a point chart for that? As our children get older, we will probably still go to Disney every few years but would like to start seeing other parts of the country/world? Is DVC worth it for world travelers?

DVC is an extremely poor choice for non DVC travel. It's too expensive and doesn't work nearly as well as other timeshares. MX if fairly easy but also easy and cheap with other methods, the other locations are extremely difficult to almost impossible even with proper planning of AT LEAST 1 year out. If you value staying on property at Disney and stay in a moderate or higher, DVC may very well be a good choice for you. You also need to be able to plan ahead. For non DVC options, I'd either look at other timeshares or use cash and just buy less DVC points. One you get to around every 3 years, DVC starts to become a poor choice for DVC use as well.

:) I thought it would be nice to stay at the DVC resort in Asheville when my MIL and I made a trip to the Biltmore. It was 70 points a night. I booked a value studio for this Oct at Jambo for 69 points-FOR A WEEK!! :scared1: and you pay a $95 fee to use points outside of DVC.

Adventures by Disney was 400 points for one person for a week in Ireland when we were looking. DH and I only have 210 points and when used wisely we get three bookings a year at Disney. No way I am using 2 years worth of points and not getting my WDW fix.

Thanks, I guess DVC might not be for us. For the next 10 years it may help, but my wife and I would really like to start taking our children other places than just Disney World.

Buy a few DVC points and look at another timeshare as well. Diversity can be the best option by far for many people.

There isn't a DVC resort in Asheville. You must mean RCI.
