Hi All,

I'm sure I'm just missing it, but is there a DVC for Dummies thread somewhere- I have been reading the Disboards for the last few months and many people are members...just wondering where I find information about possibly buying into the Grand Californian at DL :)

Here is some info.

VGC only has 48 units so booking can be tough and there is currently a several month wait list to buy direct.

Hi All,

Go to the DVC website and ask for information. They can set you up with a Guide (i.e., salesperson) who can give you all the information you need. Resales are hard to get because Disney will buy most of them back because the resort is so small.

If you are looking for resort specific information about GCV you might take a look at the DVC Resorts Forum here on the DIS. There is a lot of info about that resort available.

If you are looking for general information about purchasing DVC this Forum is a great place to ask - resale or direct.

If you are looking for information about how DVC works (using your points, making reservations, using the onine DVC systems, banking, annual fees), our DVC Member Services Forum will have the most complete information.

There are many knowledgeable posters here willing answer questions, so please feel free to ask. :)

The main two places I would go to get information about purchasing a VGC contract are:

A) A guide who is located at the DLR. Nelida is mine, she was lovely, very low pressure. (There are some that are great, and we met a few that were too pushy for our taste there.) We bought 200 points direct back in 2009 when prices were (relatively) reasonable. This will help to educate you about the program, though they will at least try to sell you some Aulani points, or put you on the VGC waitlist (the former is a bad idea if you want VGC points, the latter not a bad idea, but definitely do B and C before your name on the wait list comes up). Get an idea of how many points you want, how much you want to spend, what use year might work for you, if you want a few small contracts or a large one ...

B) The Timeshare Store. I want to say Jason was our salesperson when we bought our add-on contract, but its been a few years ... but every person I talked to at TSS was awesome and knowledgeable even though VGC had only been on the resale market for a few months when we bought through them. They did a great job at hand holding. This will help you to understand about the differences between purchasing direct and resale, and for the VGC at the moment its possible that either might be the way to go but if you talk to TSS, you'll have a better understanding of both options.

C) After you have spoken with both a Guide and TSS, and have more specific questions, come post them here (or do a search first to see if anybody has asked them first, then post, but the search engine on this forum still leaves much to be desired). If you feel its a question everybody could benefit from, all the better to post it, if its a specific question that applies to potentially only you feel free to PM me or any other VGC owner (there's a bunch of us on the VGC lover's thread). We're a friendly bunch. :goodvibes
