DVC Family Heads West - DL Trip Report with PICS Completed!

LOVE IT! :cool1: Can't wait for more!

Dying to see how you incorporated Longaberger in your visit.:rotfl:
Just kidding - taking a wild guess from your user id - have we had this conversation already?

Thanks for posting - and the pics are great. Hurray for boys!

I sold Longaberger for 12 years. Didn't bring a single one on my trip :goodvibes

OMG, I am so "homesick" for DL right now! I should not have opened this thread with all the awesome photos, that just made it worse! :lmao:

Just one question: How do you get your DH and two teenage boys to pose and smile for these photos??? They're much better about it than my DH and two sons, who are only 8 and 4yo! What's the secret??? :rotfl:

No secret - no smile, no trip :thumbsup2 Wait 'till you see how indulgent they were with the photopass people. My boys ROCK. (all three)

OK.... For my trip I'm paying an extra $600 for a "Theme Park View" and that is not what I expected! To the Original Poster: Did you pay for a "Theme Park View" or just a "View Room"?

We used our DVC points for a Theme Park View. Standard view could have gotten me a nice parking lot shot. You could see DCA off in the distance. We were satisfied with our room and our view.

I am in my 12th year too! Been promising my hubby I would eBay my living room full. I still get about 4-5 orders a year - not like the good old days! Honestly, I haven't bought a basket in years myself either.

Can't wait for more trip details! Thanks for the pics, they are great!

Thanks.... I wasn't trying to harp on your trip. It still looks like fun. I was checking out the DVC site and it looks like the "pool view" and the "theme park view" are on the same point schedule. Anyways... Did you do the DVC tour at GCV? You a GCV owner?

Time Zone Working in or Favor!!
Our plan was to arrive bright and early at 7 am at the gates of Disney Land! With teens at WDW there was always a bit of grousing when DH awakened them from their slumber at 5:45. Here the boys bodies felt like it was 8:45 which worked out GREAT.

TIP: If you plan to take advantage of early entry, plan what you're having for breakfast the day before. NOTHING was open for breakfast before 7 am. I ended up putting in a room service order for coffee, three muffins, and a bowl of oatmeal. That was the only item on our bill from our GCH stay. $36. Better than having cranky monsters or being one!

We left our room at 6:15am and learned one of the delightful differences between WDW and DL. NO waiting for the bus :woohoo: :woohoo: From the GCH you go through the lobby and turn right into Downtown Disney. This is what it looks like that early.

We were at the gate at 6:30 am. I had purchased our three day passes over the internet and was a bit worried about exchanging them for real tickets at the gate. No worries. VERY smooth. I lined us up in front of Gate 13 as was suggested by the DIS boards.

Here we are!

Like a good DISer I got out of line to take a couple more shots:

Another DL/WDW difference. Standing in the same spot and turning to the left look what we see!!
IMG_9433.jpg

That's how close the two theme parks are and DTD is right next door. Sweet :cool1:

We watched a nice family welcome us to Disney Land and we were off. No time to stop for photopass pics this morning we were heading out like the commandos we were to ride the Finding Nemo Submarines.

I lied...I did manage a photo or two while walking ;) If you watch the little Tinkerbell she sprinkles Mickey with pixie dust

day2-1-1.jpg

Slightly out of chronological order but here is the sight that we had as we entered Disney Land. I had heard many things about the size of the castle not comparing to Cinderella's castle at the Magic Kingdom. I must agree with many I know...size isn't everything. Sleeping Beauty's castle is simply charming. Don't you agree?

day2castle-1.jpg

At this point I had goose bumps that we were in the place where Walt Disney walked. After my split second of reflection I quickly hustled to follow the family in front of us. Take a right in front of the castle and two step it to the submarines!!!!

Up Next: Fantasy Land and our quest for the Photopass 'special' ops!

I knew you weren't harping :goodvibes I asked the same questions at the desk when they pointed out my room. I'm glad to know they are the same point values. We own at the Boardwalk. I'd love to be a GVC owner though :)

#1- Why was the crane there?
#2- Love the Joseph and The Technicolor Dream Coat shirt!!
#3- Absolutely LOVING this TR like McDonalds! (Bud duh duh duh duh, I'm lovin it!)

Any hoo... We're staying at GCF in November! (Be sure to check out my PTR ;) ) Sounds like you had a great time so far!

Taking advantage of early entry! The wait for Finding Nemo was about 30 minutes. It was a cute ride but nothing earth shattering (or worth waiting much longer than that especially with older kids) We were the last 4 aboard our sub. No flash was used to disturb my fellow sailors:
day2-1.jpg

I do like those Disney touches:
IMG_9441-1.jpg

After disembarking we hot footed it over to Space Mountain. Disney Land's version wins hands down over WDW. Smooth (ala Rockin' Roller Coaster) although no inversions. Rode Buzz Lightyears. DL difference - the laser guns are on a cord so you can hold them up to shoot at the targets. I found this a bit harder and used it as my excuse for the low score :rotfl:

The wait for the Matterhorn Bobsleds was 45 minutes so we headed over to adventureland. WAIT look what's here....flashback from my youth and another indulgence by my men:
IMG_9444-1.jpg

OK the ride isn't a 'thrill' but I enjoyed my spin around London with Mr. Toad
IMG_9445-1.jpg

Yo ho - Our first ride in adventure land was The Pirates of the Caribbean. Once again winning over the WDW ride. Slightly different theme with our ride through the Bayou. Longer ride too.

After we obtained Fast Passes for Indiana Jones and then rode utilizing the stand-by line. About a 40 minute wait. Now this ride is GREAT!! Worth the wait in line. The vehicles reminded me of the ones in Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom. Themeing is great, fun ride all the way around!

Right next door was the Jungle Cruise with virtually no wait. Let's go!

Time to head to the Haunted Mansion! Very nice ride in a totally different atmosphere than WDW. Southern Mansion. Our first Fast Pass 'special' Photo op! You'll find the FP photographer standing outside the gates. He was able to tell us where to find the others. I'll be sure to point them out as we go along.

WHEW we've done quite a bit. Time for our priority seating at Carnation Cafe. Look what comes up and down mainstreet!
day2-2.jpg

It was HOT today. We really enjoyed the Carnation Cafe. Outdoor seating but lots of nice umbrellas. TIP if you have reservations, don't wait in the queue. Walk up to the cast member and check in (ask me how I know) They will be in this little gazebo.

day2-3.jpg

Our nice table that got some AC from the gift shop behind me
IMG_9462-1.jpg

Don't ask me why I got hot soup on a scorching day but this loaded potato soup was YUMMY!! I recommend the pot pie as well :thumbsup2
IMG_9465-1.jpg

We went back for our fast pass ride on Indiana Jones after lunch. Next off to Tomorrowland to ride Buzz again (Space Mountain has too long a wait) We weren't walking like commandos now so I could take a couple of pictures.

day2spaceride-1.jpg

At 3:30 pm we headed back to our hotel for a little down time. How nice to be able to walk 10 minutes and be at your hotel. The boys explored DTD a bit and started their obsession with Jamba Juice. DH and I explored the backs of our eyelids with the help of our pillows

At 5:30 we headed back out of our hotel and through DTD but took a left this time to head to Disney Land Hotel and our 6pm reservations at Goofy's Kitchen. Little did we know that there was a problem with the hot water and the restaurant was closed :scared1: We waited a bit to see if it might clear up. Some of the characters were about.

Outside the DLH:
day2-4.jpg

Grumpy was living up to his name and we needed to find alternative plans for our dinner. I felt really bad for the group in the lobby celebrating their daughter's birthday. She looked to be about 4. :sad1: The cast members rebooked us for the following evening and we ate at Tortilla Joe's in DTD. Good food, no characters. A little excitement for the evening when my DH said, "you have red spots on your cheeks". By golly I did. I was having a mild allergic reaction to something I ate. Nothing a $10 box of benedryl didn't take care of thank goodness. Lord knows how long is sat on the cart in DTD.

Hope you are enjoying our trip!
Early to bed. Big day at California Adventure tomorrow!

Now that I've finished Day 2 I'm off to read your PTR. Donald ran the sound board on Joseph. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks for the kinds words!

Great TR... Keep em coming... BTW, You don't make your DH change his shirt? He's been wearing it since Michigan! :lmao:

I'll photoshop a new shirt on him for tomorrow! ROTFL! He was so excited when the Red Wings won the Stanley cup I must admit he purchased three different shirts and brought them all on vacation. Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

I love the report!!

I am jealous. :goodvibes While dd and I live close enough to go for day trips we never go there for a vacation. ;)

I love to hear about DL from other peoples perspectives.

Just wanted to say that I am really loving your trip report!
You seem to have a knack for giving lots of information without going on too much!
Loving it!

Oh that's so cool! I love Joseph <3<3 Good show! Nop prfobs and thanks for reading too. By the way... What is that you were talking about with the "special pictures"?

You are a fantastic storyteller and your pictures capture your trip so well!!! I'm looking forward to your DCA TR! :thumbsup2

Great TR! Your pictures really capture it. That one of your 6:15 a.m. stroll out of GCH took me STRAIGHT back to when we did the same thing last March! It all looks so familiar and gets me totally psyched up for our trip next month!

Tksbaskets....You will never guess what happened to me...I won an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas to see Criss Angel on the 27th of this month! I have been told that Disneyland is only a 3 1/2hour drive from Vegas. This TR with the pictures is tempting me to ask my wife about a detour to Cali but I know that I'll get the  reaction from her. Oh well, I'll start planning for the summer.

I am so jealous of the Submarine ride. I wish we had that on the East coast. The submarines were my favorite ride as a kid!

For my future reference...What is the advantage of Gate 13 at Disneyland?

You are so sweet!
I want some more!
I should be able to post more this afternoon. Ready for a cool/wet parade??

The special pics are the ones where Disney inserts characters with your family. Like the hitch-hiking ghosts at the Haunted Mansion.

Thank you! Coming up today :thumbsup2

Congrats on the trip to Vegas!!! Sigh, we Disney affectionatos must plan or trips when everyone is happy with it. Summer is a great time to go. Much cooler temps/humidity than Florida in June!

Your son is a good age for the subs and it was fun. I don't know the advantage of gate 13 but it did seem to work well for us so I went with it. We DISers have to go on blind faith sometimes :rotfl:

Me too! But I don't want this one to end! popcorn::
Next we travel to DCA and then the following day we are back at Disney Land. Couple of fine meals to share as well. I've got plenty of pictures to share yet :thumbsup2

Thanks for reading!!
