Hi!

I've never posted in the DVC forums before but have been lurking for a while because I've been contemplating ownership for years. I'm sure this is answered somewhere but haven't been able to locate. I've been looking at DVC resales and I've seen several listings with extended years. What's the deal with this? Are they all eligible for purchasing extra years? How does this work? We all love Animal Kingdom Lodge so I lean in that direction... With the idea to buy at Polynesian next :) we married there in October.

Thanks in advance!

Old Key West is the only property where owners were offered the opportunity to purchase a 15-year extension.

Old Key West was the original Disney Vacation Club property. In fact, it was originally called "Disney Vacation Club." Thus, it had a shorter "termination" date. DVC then offered owners the ability to extend the life of their deed so it would be in line with the other properties' deeds.
So the answer to your question is that for example AKV does not have an offer to extend the deed at this time. There is a lot of speculation over what will happen first at OKW, and then the other resorts, when it gets close to the end of the contract term.

OKW is the only resort to offer an extension (like most OKW owners, i turned it down because it was a lot of money for something that was 35 years away).

due to the general lack of interest, some of us aren't optimistic that DVC will bother with an extension again any time soon. if they do offer an extension, it will almost certainly be way over-priced.

AKV expires in 2057, which is the same date as an extended OKW contract. you can see the expiration dates for the other resorts in post 6 of the DVC resource thread:
