We are going on our first DCL cruise next summer, and I am curous if there are any DVC Member events on "regular" cruises (I only wish I was able to go on the Member Cruise - timing does not work)? Thanks!:goodvibes

DVC will do a couple of things each cruise -
1) they will have a DVC meeting / sales pitch for members only in one of the lounges / bars - at this they will hand out hats, and perhaps another trinket - we just got lei's for the ladies and shell necklaces for the guys - to celebrate the Hawaii resort.

2) at this event - they will do a contest of some type to give away DVC prizes.

3) They will have a welcome aboard gift delivered to your stateroom - including a door magnet - that says welcome home.

4) you will get a special dvc lanyard

5) They may have a special gift for you if you stop by the dvc desk on deck 4 - usually a pin of some sort or in the case of our last cruise on the Magic - they had a pin and a limited number of DVC passport carriers.

Dave.

Thanks for the info! Do they automatically know who the DVC members are?

On my last cruise, you know who the DVC members were by the hats, lanyards and the t-shirts! During the first day, there is a meet that only members are invited to and they hand out a whole bunch of stuff to you.

They typically "just know", but if you don't get a door magnet, stop by the DVC desk on Deck 4 (or wherever it will be on the Dream/Fantasy) and let them know. They should be able to add you in and make sure you get all the invitations and goodies.

The member events on board aren't just for those members cruising on points, right? They are open to any DVC member on the ship?

Also, I am correct in assuming that guests travelling with a DVC member can attend the events as well?

(I bought into DVC after booking my first DCL cruise with my parents for next summer. Hopefully DCL will still somehow know that I'm DVC. (If not, thanks for the tip about the DVC desk on deck 4!)

DVC events are open to all members whether they are cruising on points or not. I am not sure about guests, but I don't think they checked IDs at the door.

There is a DVC desk at the terminal -- if someone is staffing it, you can tell him or her that you are a DVC member so DVC can make sure you're on the list for goodies and invitations. Otherwise you stop by the desk onboard.

That is what I did on the 10/30 Magic cruise this year. On our first, it seemed as if DVC CMs "knew" we were on board, and we received the gifts and invite to the Member Event. On our second cruise, we didn't get an invite to the event, magnet, or in-room gift, but we knew where/when the Member Event was from the Navigator.

I stopped by the desk on our 10/30, and she made sure we were on the list, and we did get the very nice in-room gift, invite to the meeting (on the 7-Night Western, it was earlyish Key West day), and they had hats for us and some shell/bead necklaces for Aulani. We had a great time, and also went to one of the non-member presentations with my parents (non-members themselves), and enjoyed that too. We didn't win any of the raffles though...maybe next time.

Is it even possible not to "win" a raffle at the DVC member event?? :goodvibes:lmao: Opps - nevermind, I saw that you went to the nonmember presentation.

We also did not receive the Welcome Aboard Magnet or free gift. We did stop by Deck 4 and received our free gift once we asked about it. If you wear your DVC lanyard, hat or carry something noting that you are a DVC member, you can receive random free gifts as well from the DVC staff. Generally, those are free pins. We received one at Castaway Cay as we had our blue DVC bag on our chairs. When we got back from snorkeling, there was a DVC pin laying on our bag.

At the DVC member event, they did have free drinks (Blue Hawaiians) on our sailing. Is this common?

Well, our names weren't called for the trivia portion. Everyone always gets a little gift at the Member one, but we didn't get the big prize (On-Board Credit), or the option to pick Newbie, Most Senior Member, Most Cruises, or Grumpy.

For our event, we had the option of a Mimosa or glass of champagne

Last year on the Magic I was travel not on points. While waiting in the terminal I told the DVC booth that we were DVC by the time cabin was ready a DVC magnet was on the door and an invite to the next days event. I did win the $200 OBC! Can't wait for the canal cruise!
