Hi all,
I was reading some posts about missing or lost items at the resorts and started thinking about keeping your valuables safe at the pool. We are heading back to Aulani and on our last trip we always had someone at our chairs. This is a much smaller group this trip so we might not always be there.

So, my question is, what do you all do to keep stuff safe at the pools?

When I go to the pool, the only valuable thing I have with me is my KTTW card. I just put that in my top and enjoy myself. For the times I don't want to do that, I have a waterproof container that I can attach to my top. That way everything is with me and I don't worry about anybody taking anything of value.

There are rental lockers at the pools that you can use for 4 quarters. However, the easier way to handle it is to not bring anything valuable to the pool. For us, it's just our shoes and shirts, our refillable mugs, sun screen and a single room key. Sometimes we'll bring a game or something, too. Nothing I'd be terribly upset about losing. If the camera comes to the pool, it usually stays around my neck.

I want to buy one of these someone suggested it on the DIS boards

I have a vacation vault, home depot was the cheapest. Pacsafe is likely the most widely recommended product for travel but it's not as protected from the elements as the vacation vault. The VV is large enough for a cell phone including smart phone but not for a 7 in kindle.

Have to agree about not bringing valuables to the pool. KTTW card, sunscreen, and a ball to throw with the dds. I don't like to read on vacation, but DW does, and keeps her Kindle at home and picks up paperback books. I wouldn't want to lose my shoes or the books, but we've never had any real concerns. Also, as a family of four, we only take up 2 chairs. The dds are in the pool all the time, and usually DW, I, or both are sitting in the chairs. I think the thieves are more interested in iPhones and things they can make money from. Also, I'm sure they scout areas and look for distracted vacationers or those that leave their stuff on the chairs and disappear for hours.

We don't ever take any valuables and leave them at our chairs...

I don't take anything extra. I use a paperback instead of my nook and punch a hole in my kttw card and attach it to my swimsuit strap, this way I have money with me should I need it.

All very good points. For some reason I can't live without my iPhone. I use it as my main camera which is one reason I don't leave it behind.

I was thinking about locking my bag and then tying it around the chair. I figure if it isn't a 1-2 second crime they will think twice.

I don't know why you would worry. Nothing bad ever happens in Disney.
I have nver had a problem at the pools. we always take up 8 chairs at the pool. Even though there are only three of us.
You never know when friends may come by or the kids may want a extra chair. We also have friends who live near by and they love to pool hop with us. Since we are DVC members we can invite an unlimited amount of guests to join us right?

For years we have left one flip flop,a old magazine or a paper cup on each of the chairs . We then go to the parks and when we return nine hours later we have chairs poolside!

We have never had any thing taken.

I laugh when I see those fools walking around with little kids in tow looking for chairs. I guess they never heard of pre planning. Don't they know the early bird gets the worm?

I already hear the Disboards mob getting ready to descend on you. :)

The only valuable I take to the pool is my phone, but since it's me taking the kid and my wife usally finding reasons not to go to the pool, the communication tool is helpful to have.

Otherwise, it's cheap Old Navy flip flops, a t-shirt and the KTTW card (which goes in my inside pocket an my person).

So, if someone wants a pair of $4 flip flops or an old t-shirt, I guess whatever. But, the phone is a concern.

We got a KYSS bag as well. Plan is to try it out on the upcoming trip.

Now that I think about it, there is one thing we take to the pool that I'd be very upset about losing... the canvas DVC tote bag we got when we joined. It's become our carry-all for the stuff we want in the seats on the plane, and almost always goes with us to the pool and beach. It's one of the nice ones with a zip-up top and the "real" DVC logo embroidered on it. The latter ones didn't have the zipper and have a silk-screened logo. I'm guessing it would be difficult to find a replacement if someone did ever snatch it.

We also don't bring anything of value, unless someone is intending to stay dry.

If people chain bags to deck chairs and leave them there all day, I think Disney will be forced to invest in bolt cutters. The screaming from the "I can't find a pool chair" crowd will be deafening, and for good reason. No to mention the wear and tear on the chairs of having something attached to them.

I didn't mean "chain" I was going to lock the zipper and wrap the tote/bag straps around the leg, just so you can't "run off" with it.

My point was that items left to reserve chairs for an unreasonable amount of time should be removed by CMS.

"Reserving" chairs with no intention of using them for hours is extremely rude and inconsiderate.

Protecting your property while using the pool is prudent.
