I know that two years ago when I checked, we DVCer's had no special discounts for Cirque du Soleil's "La Nouba" at Downtown Disney.

But that was when they were charging $60, and now they are charging $82 ($72 for class 2 seats -- and kids' seats are $33 less than adults). Has anyone been able to find and use a discount lately?

In September, we got a 15% discount with Disney Club.

In the past they've also had discounts for AP holders.

However I don't remember ever seeing any kind of discount for DVC members specifically.

They also run a 20% off for Florida residents from time to time.

We got a great discount the last time when we were there for Columbus Day weekend. It was FREE!! We were walking by the building about 8:50 pm and a gentleman approached us and asked if we wanted to see the show. We said yes but we weren't going to pay the prices. He handed us 4 tickets and said compliments of Motorola. He then said you better hurry because the show is going to start. I couldn't believe it . The seats were right in the center - perfect. The show was fabulous! It might pay to walk by a few minutes before the show starts!!

If anyone hasn't seen this show, it is the "BEST" show on WDW property!!

Were you able to do this by calling ahead to buy tickets or was this at the ticket office?

I think the Disney Club discount ended in Sept. We were there in Oct and got tickets in August. The discount wasn't good then. There may be a discount with the AP.
It really is a fabulous show and well worth the $$! (if it is in your budget!) My DH and I have seen it twice!
It may be a good idea to call for the tickets and ask about discounts available.

I have also considered seeing the show but am a little put off by the price too. NCLIGS says it's the best. One of my concerns is that my kids may be too young to really appreciate it. They are 5 and 8. Any thoughts?

If you could afford the price(kids tx are less), your kids will be amazed and give there attention the the "SHOW". I think they will not have a problem being bored. It truely is an amazing show.
It is about 80 minutes long.
;)

I just called the WDW reservations line at (407) WDW-7600 and specifically asked for "La Nouba" discounts for DVC, Disney Club, or Annual Pass. The answer was that there was no discount now for any of them.

So then I asked if there was any discount of any type for "La Nouba". He checked, and the answer is that there are no discounts right now of any kind.

I just saw an article that the newest Cirque du Soleil show "Varekai" (which means "somewhere", if I recall correctly, in the Romany language -- the language of the gypsies) is opening this week in San Francisco.

Tickets go for $45-$70, which is a bit cheaper than "La Nouba". So we are paying a premium for "La Nouba", even though the show is stationary and has no travel costs.

When we were there at the end of September we got the 15% off through our DC card, but that discount was good only to 9/30/02. The show is really fabulous and the time goes by quickly. The price is high, but the one in Las Vegas was even more expensive.

We saw Alegria in the Twin Cities this summer. The tickets were cheaper than the ones at Disney - and the show was longer.

Because the show was long, I wouldn't take a child who doesn't sit well through this sort of thing (my four year old wouldn't - maybe in a few years).

If you compare "La Nouba" to "Mystere" (Treasure Island Hotel, Las Vegas) and "O" (Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas), which are both "stationary and have no travel costs", you will think "La Nouba" is a bargain. Tickets for the Las Vegas shows start at close to $100 each and go up from there. It's difficult to get seats for either unless you book in advance.

CarolMN -- you are right: I wonder why the stationary shows are more expensive. I would think their overhead would be less.

Beth -- Thanks for the tip on "Quidam" in St. Petersburg. It is a bit intense (and long) for little kids, but it is a great show. I saw it in Oakland, CA in 1997.

I think there two other outlets for la nouba tickets. One would be discount authorized ticket brokers like ticketmania.com. I have used them more than once and they are very reliable.

Another way is if you just feel better not to have paid full price to buy your tickets on a credit card that gives you a cashback bonus. This is usually only up to 2% but its something . On a typical charged disney trip I have gotten $100 in cashback from discover.

Well - the same thing happens to Broadway shows - when they go out on tour (with less-known actors than on Broadway), tickets are less expensive.

When I saw "Dralion" in Seattle this summer, the tickets were only $65, tax included. BUT by the time the ticket agency was done adding on all their "fees", it was $74! There were cheaper tickets, some around $45, but they were relatively few in number and put you WAY over to one side of the stage, more than 90 degrees from center stage.

ALSO, all the best seats (front center sections) were reserved for "VIP packages" which cost $165! (I don't know whether this was true of all performances or just the one I went to.)
