DVC discounts at restaurants

My fathers name is on the DVC contract, and I (daughter) am using it this summer. Would I still be able to receive the discounts DVC members get at restaurants, etc.? I read you need to show a membership card and ID so that they match. Would I not be able to get the discounts then?

The actual member needs to be present to get the discount. If you are not a member then no you won't be entitled

My sister was kind enough to fund part of our stay (mid-Feb '16) with her DVC points. We paid via Magic Band at Sanaa, and was offered the discount because it was a DVC reservation. YMMV.

With the new member ID cards, I think they are getting more strict with discounts and such.

Well, guess we got lucky. Like I said, YMMV. I would agree that some things are more stringent...Don't even try to go to Top of the World without a Membership Card...they've been instructed to be borderline rude in denying you access. (I had just purchased my own DVC contract, but didn’t have my paperwork)

Being legally entitled is different than a CM giving you a discount because they think that you are a DVC Member.

You may get a discount but you may not.

It is not rude to deny access to non members who are not entitled to the perk
Agreed. Had I brought the paperwork of the contract that I signed the day before I wouldn't have been treated the way that I was. My bad. When you're told of the perk as you're being sold the contract and don't bring the paperwork you won't get in. I was NOT trying to steal a perk that should only go to members.

And here is where I would say, "Bill for the Win...". I did not feel entitled to anything, I thought it was very nice of the CM to give us a discount. Feel good if it happens to you, but don't get upset if it doesn't.

You can have a member id card printed at the desk at BLT. What paperwork did you need?

They said the new policy is that they can't print cards anymore. What I had missed (in my excitement of signing the contract and learning of the TOW Lounge perk) was the e-mail code they sent me...which in combination with my Member ID (on the paperwork left in the safe at the hotel) would have given me an electronic ID card. All I had with me was an invitation to a New Owner Breakfast at Top of the World for the next morning...apparently not good enough. My wife was upset, and all of the waiting had caused, our DS (2YO) to have a meltdown so it wasn't what I would call a "Magical Experience". On my call to MS (on our way back to our hotel) the CM asked if we were still there and could get us access by asking for the Manager on Duty...since we had already departed it was too late. The CM said that people were abusing the privilege and that's why there was a very HARD stance. I can't fault the CMs for doing their jobs...but I didn't like feeling like I was trying to take something that I had just purchased into...

Odds are they don't have the blanks to print the cards and/or they collected the machines because no one knew that they could have cards printed at locations other than the sales center. If you bought a direct contract, I would contact your guide for help. DVC MS CMs are reservation helpers separate from DVD, the sales division of Disney.

I believe what they stated is that because of the digital card version they have eliminated the printing of cards onsite.

Not anymore since the new cards we asked if we could get ours printed during our tri if our new ones hadn't arrived but they said they can't do that anymore.
