DVC discounted tour on Segways!

I just returned from WDW and did the Segway tour on March 4th. I really enjoyed it. The first hour, they took you in a training room and taught you how to ride it. They had you maneuvering through cones, doing a 360, and riding up and down a ramp. After that, there was a short break, then out to World Showcase. From Innoventions to Norway, you had to ride single file, behind one of the instructors. Once you reached Norway, you could ride next to each other, just not ahead of the instructor. They took you through the various countries to experience the different surfaces and terrains. We went up into the gardens in Japan, which require a good deal of maneuvering. The path was narrow, and there were many small bridges to go over. Near Italy, they stopped for a break and photo op.

By the end of the first hour, I felt very comfortable on the Segway. The most difficult part is learning to trust that the machine will balance for you and you will not fall off. The more relaxed you are on the Segway, the easier it is. Bend your knees slightly, do not hang on tightly. I enjoyed the tour enough that I will probably be doing it again in May.

There were 9 people on our tour. As for the 80 year old, I would be a little nervous about having them try unless they are very stable on their feet. As someone mentioned, it can be a little tricky getting on and off. There was also a teenager in our group who fell off while trying to maneuver in Japan.

Mary--you asked what day DH and I are doing the Segway tour. We are doing it on the 25th, as we will be flying in on the 24th. Also, the 25th is my birthday, and I really wanted it to be FUN! I don't think I've been so excited for a birthday--ever--as I am to be in WDW for this one. The Member Homecoming just sealed the deal for me. I had read at one point there was going to be a "meet" at the DVC Homecoming, so maybe we can hook up there and compare notes on the tour. BTW, the info under your tag reads "chicagoland for work"; even thought I live in WI, mine should say "chicagoland for shopping"!! ::yes::

My DH and I did the Segway tour the first week they were offering them. We are both in our mid 30's and enjoyed it tremendously; however, after 2 hours on the Segway our legs were very fatigued. It really does wear you out. Our guide compared it to standing in one spot for two hours without moving around very much. You do need to be able to stand for long periods of time, and while not extremely difficult to use, they do do quirky things at times. You constantly have to be aware of your surroundings and your Segway.

Disney is very concerned about safety and doesn't want you talking to people while you are on the tour. When you are out in the park, they have a person that rides along side everyone and answers questions that people in the park have about the Segways. They turn lots of heads!

We're signed up in May also, sometime between the 21st and MH. I'll have to look up the exact date though, since DW made the ressie.

I looked it up, and we're going on May 22. SharonS's description of the tour sounds great!

Wouldn't it be fun if they added some Segways to the other recreational vehicles at OKW? ::yes::

Sharing looks like fun and I like the discount.::yes:: :wave2:
