To those of you who purchased DVC direct, I was wondering if given the chance to do it all over again, would you still purchase your DVC direct through Disney or would you go resale?:confused3 As someone who purchased direct, do you feel that you are getting your money's worth vs. someone who purchased resale? Do you feel more secure knowing that you purchased directly through Disney?pirate: Just curious about your thoughts.:grouphug:

Thanks!

I would purchase again, and if I had the choice I would do it the same, direct from DVC and not a resale. I wouldn't call it security or anything, I just like having 100% of the vacation club open to me without any kind of restriction that you get from a resale.

I'm not saying resale is a bad deal I just prefer the Direct route. Hope this helps

We're direct buy kinda people. If the deals there, I take it but if I have to hunt for it then I walk away. I'll buy in a warehouse but not a thrift store - just me, not a statement. Guess I'm kinda lazy that way. :confused3

We bought direct in 2009, and since we bought into BLT, yes we would do it all over again. Why? Because resales of BLT, in most cases, are still selling for more than what we paid. We bought BLT after the first ever webcast and paid $92 PP.

That being said, I think if I had to buy now, I would probably go resale. Right now, we don't have any intention of using the points for anything other than DVC resorts, unless we sell the points.

We are also thinking about adding a HHI contract. If we do, we will probably go resale for that.

We bought direct at SSR in 2008. If it was me, I would be happy to by resale b/c Im happy using points at DVC resorts only. But, DH wants the full flexibility that direct purchase offers. We are very happy with our membership and have no regrets....other than wishing we lived closer so we could go 3 or 4 times a year instead of 1 or 2 times :cool1:

I would and will as soon as they start selling points at the new GF DVC. Not comfortable buying from anyone but Disney.

We bought SSR direct in 2007. I think we are getting the value we expected from our DVC membership.

If direct vs resale prices where they are today, I would have probably bought resale.

When we initially purchased DVC, we didn't really know how we would want to use our membership. Having learned what we like and what works for us, I would first look for the resort we like best...then buy the better value (direct or resale).

I saved almost $8,000 buying resale rather than direct when we bought our 140 BWV contract. The whole process took less than 45 days, start to finish. from the day I decided to make an offer around the end of last October.

Even though our ownership is "restricted", if you do the numbers you will see that the use of points for any of the other options other than DVC resorts is not a good value, to say the least. (you will be essentially overpaying when you use your points on these options). Keep in mind that these are considered "perks" anyway, and can be eliminated at any time by Disney.

Unless I was driven to buy a brand new property such as GFV, I would not hesitate buying resale again. The reputable timeshare resellers work under the same strict timeshare sales regulations that Disney also must follow. We found this out when we had an attorney look over our offering and closing documents.

I have lost faith in Disney and buying direct does not guarantee that they won't change the rules on direct buyers.

During the last couple of years there have been too many changes, issues, and shenanigans.

Buying direct verses resale there wasn't as big of a price difference as there is now. I would buy resale and put the savings to good use.

I haven't bought into DVC yet, we plan to this year, but I can not see any reason to purchase direct and I think Disney need to start looking into this. The restrictions that buying resale brings have little or no effect for most people and essentially, you're talking about double the outlay.

I would prefer to buy through Disney directly for the security of knowing it's "under one roof" but I can't justify the massive cost difference in my head!

:) I guess the main reason we bought Direct in 2009 was convienence, for lack of a better term. We checked into other mortgage companies. The market had just tanked and no one else was really lending. The rates DH saw online for local banks was around 8%, Disney was 10.75% perferred I believe. I didn't really know much about resale but it seemed like a hassle.

Our 210 points cost 93$. We got a discount from Disney off the top becasue of the amount of points and they had an awesome deal to take 8$ off if you had a DVC referral which I did. I think the regular price may have been $110 per point. So we feel like we got a good deal.

Now that we have had almost three years to use the points we would absolutely go the resale route. We no longer do commando trips and I know how DVC works thanks to the DIS. So we have the time to wait on a resale contract.

Do I stay awake at nights worried about how we paid for DVC? No.

We have done both and I don't regret buying through Disney because at the time, that was the only way to get BLT.

We knew that was the resort for us and we paid a price we felt was fair. But, I also have had great experience buying and selling through the resale market--bought two and sold two.

However, what I did like about going through Disney is that I was able to use my Disney Visa to get 6 months, 0% interest and how easy it was--had my points within hours and made reservations the next day.

But, given the price difference, it would be hard for me to go through Disney now. While there are restrictions on resale, those restrictions could be placed on anyone, at anytime so I could not justify, for myself, paying extra for something that Disney has the right to take away from me too.

Now, if the price from Disney ever came down to a more reasonable number, where the difference in price wasn't that bad, then I would go direct.

I am on the fence to. Trying to decided whether to buy direct or resale.

I have done both. My initial purchase was resale. I have added on through direct because I could not find my use year or the points I wanted resale. Will be doing the same(direct) probably again later this year.

We bought resale because 1) We couldn't get the lower number of points we wanted direct and 2) I paid $45 less per point through resale. I will ONLY use the points at a DVC resort, as that's the reason for buying it. We considered for almost a year. We originally looked at Direct for SSR because BLT was too much for us. We started looking resale when my wife said she would only buy BLT and I was able to purchase it for less than SSR was direct. 160 points is too many points for us right now.

I bought direct in 2010. I have addeded on twice since then. All direct. Even with knowing the savings available through resale.

For me, it was mainly the ease of the purchase and being in and out and done the same day that makes it worthwhile. That and our guide as well as the other staff at the Doorway to Dreams makes it such an experience. I am not a saver, to me DVC is a forced savings towards vacation and having the ease of financing with Disney also make's it a no-brainer.

Every time I browse the resale listings, I see only a few that are my UY and those are either too many points, or they are stripped down and not useable for 2 years.

As far as the restrictions, they do deter me from buying resale in the future, but I just haven't found that route worth it for me. The savings are nice, but it is basically a trip or two, compared to having 100% of the options available for our vacationing future.

I know it's not the most ideal, but I'm not want to want to get involved with renting out my points and although non-DVC properties may not be the most ideal use of my points, they are a GREAT use, and I'm sure I will love every trip I take as much as the few that I have so far.

We bought direct at BLT before it opened and even now resale prices are higher than we paid for our direct buy in and we would want the bulk of our points there. However depending on the GF point charts we may buy a small contract there (for our anniversary trips) and we will have to see what prices are like for direct and if we think we could get a resale any better. If we started having children and wanted more points we would probably buy resale at this point.

I think the decision of resale vs direct boils down to:
"What will you use your points for?"
As we are in California and a majority of what we do is at Disneyland, resale would never work. Even though we have VGC points(and SSR and Aulani and AKV ) the possibility of staying in there after the 7 month window has opened is close to impossible from what we have experienced. We then turn to the hotels and have used our points a number of times for those 2 with great success. And much to the opposite opinion, we find using our points for a cruise now and then works for us. We have purchased during the times when developer points were great and incentives were good.
The only regret we have is buying our SSR points in a big chunk (270 points). I would definitely buy in smaller groups as we were thinking we wanted to sell some of those and buy more elsewhere.
The other thing to think about when buying is the annual dues. They are not all the same!
Either way ENJOY!:beach:

We bought direct at OKW twice in a year. Would I do it again? Well, considering that back then there wasn't a whole lot of difference between resale price and direct price, and given that only two DVC resorts were available, then YES, I would. We also bought direct for AKV before it opened, and for a similar reason. I wanted to be able to dictate how many points I purchased, and I wanted them THEN, not years from then.

We bought direct at BLT in December 2009. We have added on twice since then, both direct through DVC. When we bought and added on, DVC was still paying the closing costs, which we saw as negating some of the price difference with re-sale. For me, the ease of knowing that I can add on, or purchase and pretty much have immediate access to the points is paramount. I don't think I have enough patience to wait to pass ROFR.

Now that they have put restrictions on re-sale contracts, we are happy that all of our points are direct. We don't plan on using them to trade-out at this point, but who knows what the future will hold.
