DVC dining upgrade

I just got off the phone with MS. The CM said that as of 10/14, we could "split" our stay and do the DP for only part of the stay. She said they would check inventory first, make sure there was plenty of inventory, because it would be a "cancellation" and then re-book. She did say that although it would be basically 2 ressies, we WOULD stay in the same unit, would not have to move at all. Thinking about doing it for 3 of our 5 nights.

This makes me wonder if they're going to all changes as a cancelation and rebooking or if that only applies to a portion that is to be changed.

We are staying Beach club studio for a weekend. On Sunday moving to AKL one bedroom. On Sunday we will be going to H Potter all day.
I wanted QS Friday nite only at the beach club that would give us two days to use all the QS credits at the beach club since we will be gone Sunday.

Today CM shared we might have to move Saturday if I just wanted one nite of dining plan on Friday. The CM shared the person checking us in would tell us if we would have to move the next day. I asked if I could then cancel the dining plan if we were told we would have to move. The CM did not think so, she stated if would be charged to our card and not be able to be canceled.

We wanted to swim each AM until after lunch, shower and then head to the parks. With maybe no room until 4PM to get ready we decided to stay OOP for those days. The Beach club is sold out for the time we are there I do not really see them able to move us, but I did not want to chance it.

Unfortunately, you can't cancel the dining plan at check in. You have to cancel at least 48 hours before check in.

But you should be able to stay in the same villa.

sooo does this mean I can update my existing reservation and split it into 2 stays. So the rest of my family does not need to eat my meals and such while Im not there for the last 3 days that they are there?

you are Grandfathered in.

Unless you make a change to your reservation.

I called on 10/30 and needed to knock a day off of our trip bc of the dining plan we were going to check in on 12/2 but most of our party do not arrive until 12/3.

Soooo after making the minor change I was told I needed to pay for DDP in full or it would be taken off of our reservation! I have had the dining plan on there since August. So if you need to make a change you are going to have to pay for your reservation in full. And was told no one would be allowed to pay when they checked in. It needs to be paid in full 48 hours prior to your arrival, is what I was told.

I don't see this as an upgrade at all. It's about the same. But they are just glossing it over based on member feedback. Hah!

But the note about booking CRT and other types of dining that require payment in full to book the meal will be a killer for members renting out their points. If a non-member renting a reservation wants to book these, they will have to add the dining plan at that time. The member will either have to have full payment for the plan at that time to give to MS or somehow get the credit card of the non-member and I don't think that is going to work at all.

One more way of "enhancing" our membership.

I disagree - I do think this is an enhancement.

As of my conversion today with MS, It doesn't seem like a upgrade yet unless you like to prepay for the DDP.

The downsides are that if you don't like to prepay you are forced to pay when the DDP is added to your reservation. MS is still telling me that it is not guaranteed that we won't have to change rooms if we don't have the DDP for our entire length of stay. That's the way that it was before, so no improvement that I can see. :confused3

I think it is kind of silly that you would have to change rooms.

I don't know how their booking software works, but I think it would be rather easy to tag or untag the Dining Plan/Deluxe Plan for whatever days of the reservation they wanted without having to mess with rooms/ressies.

Sounds to me like they want to discourage people from coming up with all kinds of wacky combos of Dining Plan/Days etc. rather than making it a really simple add-on or removal process. This way they get the most that they can out of you with the least effort.

But you don't have to add the dining plan on to your reservation until 48 hours prior to your trip. I don't see how that is such a big deal - it's only 48 hours earlier than we had to do previously.
